Interviews: Onchocerciasis Esophagogastroduodenoscopy

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Slam/Death Metal band, Onchocerciasis Esophagogastroduodenoscopy from Canada/Australia. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name?

Caleb: Honestly, this was back in 2018, when I was 14 years old. Originally, this project was a one-off Gorenoise project for a 4 way split with friends, so naturally, I just searched ''cool medical terms'' on the internet and just picked the nastiest ones that sounded cool.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We've long been fans of Brutal Death Metal & Slam, we just wanted to create something that would stay faithful to the bands that inspire us, while also putting our own spin on things. Same goes with the new album; same genre, new style.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes! We orbited similar communities on Discord that were dedicated to the music we love. And obviously, with our mutual love for heavy music, we gravitated toward each other. I'm very glad to be able to call Caleb a friend haha

4. Each band member favourite band?

Caleb: First Fragment

Jesse: Tie between Devourment and Warning for me. Both evoke emotion in me like no other bands do, but the emotions each band evoke couldn't be more different.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

For the first 2 EPs, our main influence, as far as the compositional aspect of our music goes, were Medic Vomiting Pus, Devourment, Enmity and some Last Days of Humanity; a little Goregrind to spice things up! For the upcoming record, influences vary from Ecchymosis and Excoriation, to the more progressive and dissonant works from Defeated Sanity and Deathspell Omega.

6. Where was your last gig?

CALEB: I believe the last gig I went to was Despised Icon, Kublai Khan, and Suffocation, in Quebec City. Onchocerciasis, sadly, has not yet seen the stage.

JESSE: Last band I saw live was Thornhill!

7. Where would you like to act?

Absolutely anywhere; the dirtier the better.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

The obvious answer is those who influence us! Cephalotripsy, Defeated Sanity, and Disentomb especially.

JESSE: I would give an arm and a leg to collaborate with Disentomb. I can't promise the limbs will be my own, though. 9. Whom not? We never really think about this, but I suppose we'd have to say we wouldn't want to collaborate with artists outside of our wheelhouse? Also Nazis, definitely don't want to collaborate with them, but collaborating with a Black Metal outfit would be pretty dope.

10. Have either of you ever suffered from stage fright? Do you have any tips for beginner musicians on how to overcome this?

CALEB: The only show I've played was in a small bar, there wasn't a whole lot to be frightened about. Can't say I have any tips, sorry.

JESSE: My entire life is me suffering from stage fright, but as far as being a performing musician goes, the easiest way I overcome it is by being my own hype man. I just tell myself that I'm the man and that I'm going to kill it (the performance). It seems to work.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Bloody hard question to answer in-full. Our music is inspired by so many things, and music is only a small piece of that influence, so a comprehensive list would be impossible, but our most beloved bands would have to be it. Enmity, Disembowelment, Disentomb, Devourment, Necrophagist, etc.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

JESSE: So many of our fans ask us for hentai, it's overwhelming at times

13. What do you think of your fans?

Hentai aside, they're generally incredibly nice. It's insane to us that there are so many people out here who love our music as much as they do, it's quite surreal. Buying music and merch is fantastic, but honestly, we're just incredibly appreciative of the fact people listen and enjoy.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's so handy for finding and reading about new bands and releases that might otherwise not be on our radar. Bookmarked!

15. Something add?

Much love to everyone, from us 💗
