Interviews: Manfrea

We have had the opportunity to interview the Metal band Manfrea from Russia. Check out the interview and follow the band on their  FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Christian (vocals): I just did not like the original name "Innovation Wraith". I offered a few variants and we all chose "Manfrea" because it sounds cool, eerie and consonant with Russian new school emo, screamo, or blackgaze bands.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Christian (vocals): We actually even don't know what genre we are, lmao. We just like black or postblack metal and sometimes emo, screamo, post-hardcore, metalcore, synth wave. So that is the main concept that we use during the composing.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Christian (vocals): If we're talking about the actual lineup — that's for sure. For example, Sasha, a guitarist — we have known each other since 2010, we studied and then worked together.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Christian (vocals): there should be a 666-hour Spotify playlist. I don't know what band is my favorite but in 2021 let it be Galleons, While She Sleeps, Mayhem, Fluisteraars, Toluca and Cradle of Filth... sorry, thousands of others, lol. Nastya, a vocalist, really loves Foals, Stray Kids, NCT, Bring Me The Horizon, Brockhampton. Our bassist's, Alexander's, favourites: Slipknot, Clawfinger, Soulfly, The Offspring. Paul, a guitarist, addicted to Slipknot, Meshuggah, Tool, Mylene Farmer, Nautilus Pompilius (Russian rock band). Sasha, a lead guitarist, adores Marilyn Manson, Radiohead and Queen.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Christian (vocals): It may be everything — a book, a movie, a great song, or even our personal experiences.

6. Where was your last gig?

Christian (vocals): Unfortunately, we stopped playing live gigs along before the pandemic. Our last gig was in late 2018. We try to get back on track, I hope it will happen as soon as possible.

7. Where would you like to act?

Christian (vocals): Anywhere, where the people are.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Christian (vocals): I have to say it definitely must be Claudio Simonetti, Attila Csihar, Bjork (not so metalcore, I know) — that's my dream. But to be serious — it can be anyone whom we like, even if it is no-name person as we are.

9. Whom not?

Christian (vocals): Anyone with a bad reputation.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Christian (vocals): I think that all of us have it — more or less. I would not recommend "cure" it with alcohol or drugs, you just have to be in a good state of mind, well slept and rested.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Christian (vocals): During the composing of the songs for NOIRE it was Carpenter Brut, Ghost, Perturbator, Of Mice And Men, Lana Del Rey, Toluca, Bring Me The Horizon, Killswitch Engage… Tons of music.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Christian (vocals): I remember how our drummer threw a stick into the small crowd and it was caught by a girl I knew. Then another guy from the crowd (we knew him too) just came up and asked us to take the drum stick back for him!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Christian (vocals): I think that there are not so many of them in the world, but we are grateful to everyone who spends any time listening to us.

14. What do you think of our site?

Christian (vocals): Nice design, interesting material — that's a great combination to keep the reader closely.

15. Something to add?

Christian (vocals): We want to say "thank you" for a good opportunity to answer your questions. And also we would like to say to the people: Be a good person — that's the only way to get high for free.
