Interviews: UNCURED
We recently caught up with Zak Cox of the Hard Rock/Metal band UNCURED from the USA, who just released their epic new single "Take Me Away". Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Why did you decide to move from metal to hard rock with your new material?
We started out as a progressive metal band back in 2017 but over the years we evolved our sound with the addition of clean vocals from our lead singer Rex Cox. We found that our favorite genre to play was closer to active metal and hard rock. With a more accessible sound we have been able to reach more fans while playing our favorite style of music. We love having catchy choruses and technical guitar solos, and the hard rock genre allows us to do all of those things in our recordings and live on stage.
2. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Rex and I are brothers and we started the band in 2016. We found our drummer Liam Manley on YouTube in 2017 and found our bass player Micah Smith in 2019 on Instagram!
3. What's your favorite band?
All of the band members have their own influences and favorite bands. My favorite band is currently Motionless in White, along with Opeth and Trivium. Rex’s favorite band is currently Bring Me the Horizon, and he takes inspiration from many other genres including pop and R&B.
4. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We love writing songs, but our biggest inspiration when writing a song is how it will sound at a live concert. Live concerts and touring are our favorite things to do, so all of our songs are written with live performance in mind. We are inspired to write songs that are fun to play and groove so that can get the crowd jumping and dancing.
5. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was at the Warlando Music Festival in Orlando Florida in early September 2021. We played on the Main Stage with other top acts like Judas Priest and Sabaton.
6. What bands have inspired you the most?
We are most inspired by bands like BMTH, Breaking Ben, and Linkin Park.
7. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Fans have asked us many weird requests but one of the most common that we hear is that they want the sweaty shirt right off our backs!
8. What do you think of your fans?
We love our fans! They have shown us tremendous support in just our few years as a band. We have had fans greet us at the airports and hotels in South America and fans take plane flights to see us. There are many Uncured tattoos and fan pages already and that’s such an honor to have so many amazing and dedicated fans already!!
