Interviews: Catarinth

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metal project Catarinth from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their INSTAGRAM PROFILE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it, or did it come out just like that?

Billy: Catarinth is actually the combination of the words "catacomb" and "labyrinth". A friend of mine named Chet told me that my music brings the imagery of catacombs to mind. I wanted a name that represented that, but it was also unique.

PJ: It's just my name (Pure Joy).

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Billy: Prog metal has always been my favorite genre of music ever since I got into playing music in my early teens. I enjoyed the complexities and experimentation that went into it. It was only natural that I would want to create the kind of music I've always enjoyed listening to.

PJ: I wanted to go to the "Unknown."

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes! We had been friends for a while and each had our own independent musical ventures that we were pursuing. We had mentioned the possibility of making music together in passing a few times, but never really followed up for a while. Then one day, we just decided to commit to it and then the ball got rolling!

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Billy: I've had a number of bands hold the number one spot over the years, but if I had to choose one that held the spot the longest it would probably be Avenged Sevenfold.

PJ: Incubus

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Billy: My inspiration comes from all over. Any time I hear a piece of music that elicits a feeling or emotion, whether it's from a band, a video game soundtrack, or a movie, I immediately want to go create something of my own that can give others a similar feeling.

PJ: Life

6. Where was your last gig?

Billy: I actually don't really gig. The creation of music is what I am really passionate about.

PJ: Goldmine Tavern in Henderson, NV

7. Where would you like to act?

Billy: The last show I saw was at the Brooklyn Bowl, Las Vegas (Apocalyptica). Seemed like a fun venue!

PJ: The Iridium, NYC

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Billy: Courtney LaPlante of Spirit Box would be epic

PJ: Polyphia

9. Whom not?

Billy and PJ: Ye.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Billy: Definitely. I'm an introvert at heart so getting on stage is always a nerve-racking experience. But I find it helps to just focus on the art like I do when no one is watching.

PJ: Yes. Remember that the audience is there with you not just for you; it’s a shared experience!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Billy: Dream Theater, Avenged Sevenfold, Nightwish, Epica

PJ: Incubus, Stevie Wonder, Steve Vai, Amy Winehouse

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Billy: My address. Don't do that

PJ: I've yet to find out!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Some of the most supportive and positive people out there!

14. What do you think of our site?

You have an impressive list of metal genres...
