Interviews: Eldfaerd
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Blackened Death Pagan Folklore Metal band, Eldfaerd from Sweden. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Kvasth: I was looking for a name that would suit our theme and I remember a song with the band Thyrfing
called Eldfärd, and Tobias and I thought it would be a great name for the band, but we wanted to have
another spelling, with ae instead of ä. The name also has another meaning for me. In English it would be
like a fire journey or a journey through fire and I see our souls like a fire that fuels us, and we humans are
constantly on a journey somewhere, and also our lyrics take the listener on many journeys, so the name
fits perfectly I think.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Kvasth: Tobias and I who started the band played in a goth metal band called Myrah before and there we
played rather slow music this time we wanted to play faster and more aggressively and we also wanted
to mix in some pagan and viking influence into the music, so we started to implement it. We love this kind
of music, so it also went naturally.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Kvasth: Yes, Tobias and I have known each other for like 20 years now. Glød also played in Myrah so we
have known him for almost 20 years. Erik was a friend to Tobias and they play together in the death metal
band Shikaka where also our new member Fýr is playing. So yeah, we are a band of friends.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Kvasth: This is very hard, but I would say Insomnium
Tobias: Amorphis
Glød: Porcupine Tree
Erik: Signs of the Swarm
Fýr: Meshuggah
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Kvasth: I would say nature inspires me very much, as also old Norse tales and sagas.
6. Where was your last gig?
Kvasth: We haven´t had any gigs yet with Eldfaerd, so the last time for me was with my old band in
Northern Germany at a celebration gig some years ago.
7. Where would you like to act?
Kvasth: It would be awesome to play at Wacken open-air.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Kvasth: It would be cool to do something with Heilung.
9. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Kvasth: Of course, at the beginning of my career at the first gig I did I was very nervous and some gigs
after that too. I´m still a bit nervous after 100 gigs but now I can handle it much better. I think you need to
be a little nervous to keep you on your toes. You just have to relax, and if you play something wrong or
forget some lyrics you just need to go on and not stop, just act like nothing happened. It´s not the whole
world if you do some small mistakes. As long as you are prepared and know your things, then just go with
the flow. Everybody makes mistakes sometimes, even the best.
10. What bands have inspired you the most?
Kvasth: I would say Finnish metal bands like Insomnium and Before the Dawn, but also a lot of melodic
black metal from the 90s and early 2000.
11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Kvasth: I think it was when a girl bought a t-shirt from us when we had a gig in a castle in Germany and I
was all sweaty after the gig, and she asked me if I could wear the t-shirt for a while before she took it back.
I did it of course.
12. What do you think of your fans?
Kvasth: The fans are everything, they are the fuel to carry on.
13. What do you think of our site?
Kvasth: I like it. It looks nice and I see that you are putting in hard work it seems like a great place for
the bands to get promoted. And you have a lot of info and news. Keep up the good work!
14. Something to add?
Kvasth: Check out our new EP “Skymningsland”. See you on the road very soon, I hope. Skål!
