Interviews: Truism

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Groove Metal band, Truism from Poland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We were struggling to find a one-piece band name that would not be taken yet, turns out it's impossible these days haha. The idea was that the name should also have a twist to it. After going through some other names we figured that people tend to underestimate the power of the obvious truths - which make little sense as it does not make the truth any less true. Stuff like, "if you don't know how to take care of yourself, you will not know how to take care of someone else" or "if you lie to yourself, you will lie to others" - that's some basic wisdom of which we tend to forget in our daily life. And we do think it can work similarly when it comes to music as best beats, riffs, and grooves have something primal about them, that tribal pulse which has been with humanity for millennia - as a band we want to play with it, and harness its power. Plus, whenever people say that our music is a cliche we can always reply: "what else did you expect from a band called Truism?" haha

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I guess it just comes naturally. All of us have grown up listening to various genres of music but somehow we always gravitate toward heavy music. There is something about its vibe, the intensity, and density of sound, and the way it rocks our bodies and souls, it just feels right.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, when it comes to the current lineup. Our paths have already crossed. Some of us have even already played in a band before Truism was formed. Dzvon and Mihau know each other from the times when the latter still played bass in None. The rest of us got to know Mihau when he moved to Wrocław from Gdynia.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Dzvon - Tool

Mihau - BlackSabbath

Maciek - Soundgarden

Bartek - Death

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We all started the adventure with our instruments as autodidacts in the pre-youtube era and there was no better way to learn than by mimicry. Playing covers of your favorite band's tunes is a great way of practicing, but at some point, you ask yourself a question "now what"? Creating your own music gives you the ultimate freedom, it's up to you what type of a story you would like to tell, how will you balance between harmony and dissonance, whether are you on a journey to trance or if will there be constant plot twists? If you are happy with the end results, a man that's a win, if more people are into what you are doing it gives you an energy boost and makes you want to share even more of what you are cooking.

6. Where was your last gig?

As Truism we are still in the phase of rehearsing for live gigs. We set the bar high for ourselves and you can say that we are a bit picky when it comes to venues. We do believe that in the long run, it is better to turn down bad gigs with bad PA and give proper shows. We were scheduled to open up for Pestilence but unfortunately, the Central European leg of the tour got canceled. With Acid Drinkers on hiatus, Mihau is the only Truism member actively gigging in Poland with Flapjack - in June guys will share the stage with Pantera, Crowbar, and Hatebreed on MetalHammer Fest in Łódź.

7. Where would you like to act?

Summer Festivals are always fun to play. We are also in touch with a bigger band discussing the support for their Fall Polish tour.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

"Dream big", they say Sepultura, Gojira, our heroes in general.

9. Whom not?

Drunk pedophile flat earthers :P

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Being well prepared helps, practice :)

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Too many to list. Take inspiration from as many sources as possible.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A request for a body autograph always struck me as odd, this doodle is gone as soon as you hit the shower.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We appreciate all of the support and energy they show. It is insane that our music can mean something to complete strangers

14. What do you think of our site?

A breath of fresh air compared to Metal Injection

15. Something to add?

Nope.
