Interviews: Korkut

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Post-Hardcore/Instrumental Metal band, Korkut from Spain. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The band´s name comes from Turkish, where "Korkut" has different meanings, such as "fear" or "scare". Moreover, in our local language (Basque) "K" is very common so the name sounds familiar. It came up by chance and we thought it was a good name for the band.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

It´s the genre we like to play and with which we feel comfortable. We don´t like to catalog the genre we play, but it is what comes out due to our preferences in common. We like heavy and powerful music with lots of changes in intensity, and we like to experiment with the genre...

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Javi (bass) and Josu (drums) met many years ago and even used to play in a previous band. the others didn´t know each other, Mikel entered as a guitarist on behalf of the previous guitarist, and Joseba who plays de keyboards/synths is the newest member of the band.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Difficult to answer that. We are 4 members with very different preferences and each one has their influences. We have in common to call it somehow alternative metal and there are many bands that have influenced us. To name some of them, locally Kuraia or Berri Txarrak, nationally Hamlet and internationally Linkin Park, Ghost, Dredg, Rise Against, SOAD...

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The current social and political situation inspires us in addition to historical events or other topics.

6. Where was your last gig?

We played our last show at Sala Mogambo in Donostia. We played just before the pandemic two German groups, it was the end of February 2020. We had some shows for March but they were canceled due to COVID. In the Basque Country, the confinement was too long and hard, with many restrictions. That period of inactivity made us rethink things and when we got back, we decided to change to the instrumental format and we incorporated Joseba as keyboardist...

7. Where would you like to act?

We are looking to show this new instrumental format live and we are delighted to play in any place where anybody wants.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

First, with any local band looking to the national scene, it would be an honor to play with "El Altar del Holocausto", another instrumental group that is a reference for us.

9. Whom not?

We close no doors for now. It would be a band with any controversy or something we don´t agree but musically we would not make exceptions.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Really no, there are always nerves but the best is to try to enjoy yourself, and then things come out more naturally and better.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

A lot, but now, in the instrumental format they were “El Altar del Holocausto”

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We never had been asked for strange things, we hope it will happen because it will mean that we are still playing! In 2014 with the first members, we played at a university party where there was a very festive atmosphere and electronic music using sound. They wanted us to play electronic music at a high volume because there were people who wanted to listen to that kind of music. Luckily, common sense won out and although they didn't remove the music, they turned it down and the show could be given.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love all people who enjoy our music. Here is not very common, but people who like this kind of music really enjoy it.

14. What do you think of our site?

It´s an amazing website with a lot of work behind it. Really appreciable job and thanks for the promotion you give us.

15. Something to add?

We have recently released the single "MCMIII" with a video on youtube, Spotify, and other stream platforms, as a preview of the EP we are going to record soon. in a video clip on Youtube and Spotify, as a preview of the EP that we will record soon. Listen to it!
