Interviews: Blue Dawn

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Occult Rock/Doom Metal band, Blue Dawn from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Enrico Lanciaprima: well, I had the idea, to me a blue dawn is something very evocative and fascinating and so we thought it could fit with the music we had in mind.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We are very influenced by seventies bands because in that era musicians were willing to experiment, to break barriers, not to stick to a specific kind of music and we want to do that too. In the eighties too, bands like Celtic Frost, Voivod had that spirit too and now Tool, they are dark and heavy, but also progressive and experimental

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

No, I met Andrea, the drummer, in late 2008 and then we decided to form a band and we found the other guys thanx to advertisements.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

For me and Marty it's Black Sabbath, Andrea the drummer loves Deep Purple, for Monica it's My dYing Bride, for Davide it's Death.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Musically, the bands I mentioned before and also King Crimson, led Zeppelin, Type O Negative , Blue Oyster cult. Lyrically, I write about real life, what's happening in the world, interpersonal relationships, and some occult themes.

6. Where was your last gig?

Genoa, a month ago, release party for the new record.

7. Where would you like to act?

Well, anyplace in the world! Obviously, we'd like to tour in Europe and America, we did a UK tour 10 years ago, but we've mostly played in Italy so far, the last few years were tough for obvious reasons.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

I think that bands like Tool, Triptykon, Angel Witch, Candlemass, or BOC would be perfect for us.

9. Whom not?

I respect every band, of course I just think we couldn't fit with bands too different to us, like glam or pop - punk bands.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

It used to happen in the early days, but not now, except if we have to play with big bands, last year we opened for Voivod, and maybe a couple of us were a bit nervous, but nothing more. The best way to approach a gig is to do something relaxing, read, flex muscles, and have a chat with friends.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Blue Oyster Cult, King Crimson, Celtic Frost, Voivod

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

An extreme sex act that I can't talk about

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are usually very passionate and caring people, we love 'em.

14. What do you think of our site?

I think it's very well constructed and a perfect vehicle to support underground bands and introduce them to the public, you do a very important job.

15. Something to add?

Thank you very much for your interest in us and for your great work.
