Interviews: Ave Galea

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Black Metal band, Ave Galea from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Chad: I had considered using the name Eva Galli for a project, who was the main character in the movie 'Ghost Story', around the time I told Jason I'd like to do a project with him. He suggested coming up with something similar to that and not using the name of a person. He came up with Ave Galea. He's explained to me more than once what the meaning is behind that name and I can never remember what it is.

Jeffrey: I'll leave to chad as well.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Chad: He and I have both been fans of black metal and played it for many years. I primarily play it because of the genre's diversity these days and I find it more expressive of the atmosphere I'm trying to convey.

Jason: Extreme messages through extreme music pretty simple math.

Jeffrey: All genres have an unwritten set of rules, I was drawn to Black metal for the freedom to express darkness.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Chad: I've known Jason for a very long time. When we got Jeff in the band after the first album, I had never met him and didn't until our first recording session together.

Jason: Yes. Very long-time friendships with both. Playing shows and previous bands together. I and Chad C. Watson/Aminion have over two decades of friendship, and I and Jeffrey Breden worked together previously in Pulchra Morte.

Jeffrey: I was selected by Jason our vocalist, whom I have worked with in another band prior.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Chad: My favorite band is The Misfits.

Jason: Our favorite band would be a rough one, we have many lol. I'd definitely say we all have a deep fondness for Misfits, Danzig, and Samhain. Along with many personal favorites from Morbid Angel to Marduk, it's a very rough question because I'm literally jamming UFO while typing this.

Jeffrey: I can only speak for myself as far as a favorite band. But it would be satyricon for me.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Chad: Musically I'm very inspired visually. Anything from horror movies or art to things in real life. Whatever makes me feel something that I can recreate through sound. Lyrically, whatever I feel like writing about.

Jason: Horror movies and the occult anything of dark substance.

Jeffrey: I try to get inspired mainly by myself, to evoke what I feel into musical form. That's usually how I write.

6. Where was your last gig?

Chad: My last gig was in Carbondale, Illinois in a Misfits Tribute band in 2015. I haven't played live in so long for several reasons.

Jason: My personal last gig was in Rock Island Illinois at Wake Brewing which I highly recommend! The Parris Brothers rule and the beer and hospitality are fantastic!

Jeffrey: Somewhere in Minnesota while on tour with my other band.

7. Where would you like to act?

Chad: Anywhere with a great crowd. However, I'm just as happy playing at home alone. The distraction from reality is what I love the most about playing music.

Jason: I'll perform anywhere for the correct amount of black blood n whiskey.

Jeffrey: I'll play anywhere within reason.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Chad: Glenn Danzig.

Jason: Doing a show with Metalucifer would be epic.

Jeffrey: King Diamond.

9. Whom not?

Chad: Snobs and anyone else unpleasant to be around.

Jason: No posers! True metal warriors only!

Jeffrey: The obvious, stuff that is very left field from metal. Probably wouldn't gel very well.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Chad: Yes, I do but I'm usually okay after the first song. Klonipin or booze have been powerful allies in the past.

Jason: Fuck no! Whiskey n metal burn shit down!

Jeffrey: Stage fright is an illusion, never be afraid.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Chad: All of Glenn Danzig's projects, composer Angelo Badalamenti, retro video game music, and most of the black metal, a few favorites being Coldworld, Xasthur, Darkthrone, Dark Funeral, and old Dimmu Borgir.

Jason: I'd probably say Black Sabbath, Van Halen, or anything rock n roll. FUCKING VENOM.

Jeffrey: Satyricon, Marduk, Gorgoroth, shining.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Chad: A girl cut herself and wanted me to drink her blood during a set when I was in the full band version of Aminion.

Jason: I had someone ask me to autograph their bag of Dmt once.

Jeffrey: Drugs

13. What do you think of your fans?

Chad: I love hearing from them. I'm fortunate and very humbled when I get messages from fans, especially from other countries.

Jason: Some of them are great some of them are not.

Jeffrey: I appreciate anyone who appreciates our musical output.

14. What do you think of our site?

Chad: It rules!

Jason: Not sure I'll get back to you on that.

Jeffrey: Was not familiar with it, but I thank you for the coverage. I have nothing to add lol.

15. Something to add?

Chad: Be sure to check out our other bands: Aminion, Harkonin, Sidirial, Pulchra Morte, and Bastard!

Jason: Satan
