Interviews: Beneath The Hollow

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Heavy Metal band, Beneath The Hollow from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The band name has just ended up sticking around from the early days of Matt (drums) and I playing music together. It was a take on the underground being looked at as “less than” while mainstream society is blindly following these celebrities, religions, and other entities with no real substance.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We were always drawn to heavier and darker music. We just started playing and this is what came naturally.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Matt (drums) and I are brothers, so I’d say we knew each other a little bit before the band formed, hahaha. Jewell (vocals) had played in other bands we did shows with over the years so we were familiar with each other when the opportunity to play together presented itself. Dan (bass) and I met through our wives, and was a perfect fit when we found ourselves in need of a bass player.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Jewell: The Cure

Jesse: tough to pick one, but currently I’d say Alluvial or Rivers of Nihil.

Matt: Gojira

Dan: Opeth

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Life experience. When I bring in a song idea to the guys my goal is to have the instrumental alone give you that “I’ve felt like that before” type of feeling. Even before a lyric or vocal melody is added.

6. Where was your last gig?

The last 3 shows were a residency set at a venue called The Depot in Baltimore, MD. 3 nights sold out without labelmates Dog Fashion Disco & Knives Out!

7. Where would you like to act?

We’d love an opportunity to perform at any of the US festivals. Full Terror Assault, Blue Ridge, or the next Milwaukee Metal Fest.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

There are tons of amazing artists out there we’d love to collaborate with. Navene Komperweis & Chaney Crabb from Entheos are one of the top choices off the top of my head. That new Entheos record is amazing.

9. Whom not?

I’d never say no to an opportunity to work with anyone in a creative way. Never know what you could learn from being in a room with other people with different perspectives.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Once that I can remember. When we first started playing bigger shows we opened for Exodus and Goatwhore and the place was packed. I got the jitters until the first song started. The audience immediately responded to us and pits broke out, which calmed the nerves. As for advice to anyone trying to get to the other side of stage fright, just get up there and let it rip! That feeling will go away.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Far too many to mention them all. Anyone who is doing their thing, making art, and doing it with authenticity is an inspiration.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nothing crazy. Just the typical stuff. A picture or an autograph is all I’ve been asked for.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We have a great group of people following and supporting us. They end up becoming more of a community of friends than “fans”

14. What do you think of our site?

Seems pretty cool to me. Certainly love any outlet that’s giving growing bands a platform to be heard and seen so thank you!

15. Something to add?

Appreciate you taking the time to chat with us. And to your readers, if you’ve found yourself here reading this, thank you for taking the time to check us out!
