Interviews About Albums: Arched Fire - Trust Betrayal (2023)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Finish Thrash Metal/Heavy Metal/Speed Metal band Arched Fire to ask some questions about their album "Trust Betrayal"

1. What can you say about this new CD?

Ari: Trust Betrayal is Arched Fire’s second album and our best work so far. It has ten old-school heavy/speed/thrash metal songs. Wormholedeath Records has released it as a digital/stream album and a CD. The Japanese edition of the CD is out at the end of August. Also, it f*****g rips and rules.

2. What is the meaning of the CD name?

Kristian: Trust Betrayal is an oxymoron. The album lyrics deal with this concept. It is an important subject since trust is what runs the global economy. And trust is the cornerstone of every successful human interaction.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD?

Ari: We all are. I guess you could say for example that ”Mastermind” is made of Mika’s riffs, ”Self-Backstabbers” is Janne’s,” Wings of Chrome” and ”Narcissist” and ”Artificial Sun” are Kristian’s, and ”Fear” and ”Pestilence” are my riffs - I mean based on who wrote just the riffs. ”Blind Faith”, ”Oblivion” and ”Corporeal Abhorrence of Entrails” are new versions of the songs Assu, Mika, and Janne played together a long time ago. But that’s not the whole truth. We all wrote and arranged our own individual instrument parts. The vocal melodies are all Kristian’s, so he’s a composer in all of the songs. Janne’s guitar tracks are also very much compositions of their own right. That’s why we credit the whole band as songwriters.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Assu: I pick Oblivion. Musically, it's a very sad symphony, and lyrically it’s about humanity, the world, and the future, but it also bravely gives a ray of hope and brings comfort. If we do change our ways and the way we think, everything might not be lost.

5. Is there a special message in this CD?

Kristian: Every song in Trust Betrayal has its own special message. But they all revolve around trust issues. The theme of betrayal occurs again and again when evil people come into the picture. Some think they are making themselves better by putting others down and some are telling lies to gain power. The lyrics highlight some red flags you should notice about that kind of person. Some songs deal with trusting your abilities and trusting humanity. Some songs are about where the betrayal of humanity with unsustainable actions will lead us. Without trust, you end up fearing everything.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

Kristian: Here are some of my favorite lines. Can you figure out the songs?

Conservative adaptive sabotage themselves
Hyperbolic discounting rebels
Peak human population is reached with the exponential growth of needs Disposables and planned obsolescence as drugs are peed on plastic seas
Interpretation alters perception
They were chasing the golden carrot in the gilded cage
Endless stress piling up, running in the rat race
We burn, as witch-hunt turns all against all
Undiscovered treasures burned, we taste the doom
Intensive farming with no space to move
Break free from ego!

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Assu: For me, this album was a bit more challenging than the first, because I didn't want to play the same things and rhythms as on the first album. Still, it needed to sound like Arched Fire. I thank my kids and girlfriend for their support and inspiration during composing and recording.

Ari: I was mostly inspired by our previous album, Remote Control because we kept working on new music all the way from 2020 to 2023. It almost seems like the two records are one. I wanna thank Teemu Liekkala for his studio and camera wizardry and Ripper Owens for singing in the song ”Pestilence”.

8. Something to add?

Ari: Check out Remote Control and Trust Betrayal on Cd or online and if you like it, give Arched Fire some love on Facebook and Instagram!
