Interviews: BORT

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Pop Punk band BORT from the USA. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We were abducted by aliens in 2019. They took us up into a romantically lit, tic tac-shaped spaceship and gently eased up the volume on their 1995 Pioneer sound system. They were playing the Kenny G Christmas album (time doesn’t exist to them so Christmas can be whenever). About 3 sax solos in they all shed a layer of skin in unison and began chanting BORT. So it seemed the obvious choice. 

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We don’t have the rhythmic chops for Bossa Nova.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes. We had the same parole officer.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

We all only listen to BORT. Well... and occasionally Kenny G

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

This sounds like a cheesy answer but... life. If I’m hungover, I write about it. If I’m feeling particularly happy or sad, I dive in. I’m not great at going back and writing about something I felt 6 months ago. I try to create at the moment and take inspiration from what’s happening right then.

6. Where was your last gig?

Champs in State College, PA. One of the best venues in the world.

7. Where would you like to act?

If there’s ever a movie about BORT... I think we could pull that off pretty well.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

It would be amazing to work with someone outside of our genre and see what comes out. Stromae would be at the top of that list.

9. Whom not?

My neighbor is kind of a dick. I don’t know if he plays music but if he does he can fuck off.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Stage fright has never really been an issue but the advice I always give to people is to just rule stage fright out as an option. Just tell yourself that you’re not letting that emotion in and focus on what you CAN control.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Oh, man... Weezer, Pixies, Blink, Green Day, Oasis. All the bands I grew up listening to.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Someone got one of my old band’s logos tattooed down his entire forearm in solid black. We broke up about a month later. I always wonder how he handled that... and if he got it removed. It was HUGE.

13. What do you think of your fans?

BORT fans are the greatest fans on (and off) Earth.

14. What do you think of our site?

It needs more BORT!
