Interviews: NEVER ELECTED

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock band NEVER ELECTED from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

Altan had this name in mind for years. When we formed the band and went through the process of finding a name for it, we had over a hundred options that we narrowed down to 5, and this kept making the cut every single time. Finally, we all agreed on Never Elected.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

While all of us have varied influences and favorites, grunge and hard rock seemed to be the common ground for all of us. Also, we didn't make a conscious decision to play this genre. Altans guitar playing and Sujits vocal melodies just naturally drove us in this direction.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Altan and Sujit used to meet in a common bandmate’s jamroom, where they played in different bands. After they left those bands, Never Elected was formed. We approached Dr. T to fill in on bass a few years ago. Sujit and Wesley met while filling in for a band, opening for Billy Idol at the Anthem venue in DC. That completed the current line up of Never Elected.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Altan: At the moment, “Jeff Buckley”

Sujit: “Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden, Jethro Tull

Dr. T: (it depends on what side of the bed I wake up on… and whose bed I wake up in.)

Wesley: “Snarky Puppy”

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Everything and anything, all at once. Sujit- Anything and everything around me. Mostly from personal life experiences and then just watching everything that is happening around us today, it is hard not to be inspired to write. From Socio-political issues to personal life experiences, and stories from friends, relatives, and strangers alike, there is always something to write about.

6. Where was your last gig?

“The Public Option” (in DC) and our next one is at one of new favorites places to play, The Adroit Theory Brewery in Purcellville on the 18th of November.

7. Where would you like to act?

Red Rocks, Colorado

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Guns N’ Roses

9. Whom not?

If we told you that, we might get Elected and we prefer to remain Never Elected. 

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Altan: “I've had an instance where I freaked out when my guitar suddenly went quiet on my amp (a cable got loose from the vibration). Major tip for beginners, nobody in the audience will know there is a problem unless you are visibly freaking out. Therefore, just go with it, pretend the guitar cutting out is part of the live version of the song.’

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

As a band, with our current line-up, we’ll say generally; Soundgarden, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam…etc.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Sujit: “A fan asked me to sign her boobs. She then turned around and asked to also sign both butt cheeks”

13. What do you think of your fans?

They keep us looking and feeling cool.
