Behind The Tracks: VAYA - Pulse (Single) (2023)

I was on my way home and something inside me asked me to go sit in the restaurant Queen Anne next to my home Studio on Richmond West.

I ordered something to eat and the waiter had no time to bring my food all the words were already written on my leather book. My only wish was to explore sounds for it at the studio and not give a minute for my food. Anyway, I jumped in the elevator, when to my unit, and worked on it.

It was important to express somehow the presence and power of the Elders, the Tribe.

It needed a structure slow and powerful on the drums beat to transmit this kind of unified soul from far away is the story teller of a kind of dysfunctional actual society where Love is replaced by Fame and Money. But no one will be able to fill this « hole ».

Elders are asking us to go back to values that connected us to each other with Love, Respect, and Care. Nothing can pretend to compete with Love Greatness.

When I transmitted the story of PULSE to Yumi SONODA, co co-creative video maker based in Japan, I explained that it was really important to picture the power of the Tribe, the family because I was feeling that loneliness surrounding lots of people in Toronto City.

Our way to picture a family united by LOVE was to choose a real family and so all the actors in the Video are VAYA’s ;) Yumi always has this amazing capability to empower all ideas I send to her and blow me out again with a new scenario.

Here down some words about it

The song is asking people, the actual and future generations; what is their purpose in life? What are the roots of your life and love? Where are your roots? What is your goal?

As the TV shows? Glory, success, fame, building a perfect material life?

Is that how to define happiness?

Even deeper: Starting with certainties of what people think they want and can control « I will do my best just to certify» with an arrogant streak and finishing on an uncertain knowledge becoming more doubtful and fragile « I will do my best just to satisfy».

During the video a young child of 10 years old, who is the expression of purity and wisdom is on a quest to connect each piece or person of his life and love together: The father, his siblings, and his mother. All these Archetypes are the strength of the family; the TRIBE.

PULSE shows the power of the tribe which is where love stands. A unified family is the one that will carry the accomplishment of a being: together we are and will always be stronger.
