Interviews About Albums: GREENGOAT - A.I (2023)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Spanish Psychedelic Stoner Metal/Doom Metal band GREENGOAT to ask questions about their album "A.I"

1. What can you say about A.I.?

A.I. is an album that we've been eager to create for years, telling a story through music. And it's also our first LP.

2. What is the meaning of the A.I. name?

A.I. speaks about artificial intelligence and our vision of the relationship that humans have with it. A relationship that is in its early stages, and in which there is still much to explore.

3. Which one is the composer of the A.I.?

Both of us contribute; in fact, there are songs on this album that we created years ago, even before Greengoat existed as such. We both contribute in all phases of the composition process, both in terms of themes and music. We've been playing together for years, and we're fortunate to understand each other perfectly and complement each other in our ideas.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

We couldn't choose! Each song represents a story in itself, picking one over the others would detract from the overall representation that the album conveys.

5. Is there a special message in A.I.? If there is, what is it?

The album explores the relationship between humans and self-aware artificial intelligence, something we believe could happen, and it delves into how both parties would confront this scenario. The human, in creating non-biological life, grapples with their ignorance of the true magnitude of their creation. Meanwhile, the AI is like a newborn with access to infinite knowledge but lacks the experience to handle it. A dystopian world that seems increasingly imminent.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

Sure! This is the lyric for Awake, which we feel contains a lot of the message of this album:

You found us growing,
drowning out this land
We're a worn out promise
You said we caused it,
turned into sand
Now we're left out crawling

Yeah, crawling
Yeah, drowning

You found us moaning
bout not being enough
Just so blind and foolish
You said we exhausted it,
shoving us to the end.
Now we are left unknowing

Yeah, you're awake
Yeah, you're awake

But seeing you unfolding
was so precious,
felt so righteous...
Now we all fear
to understand

Yeah, you're awake
Yeah, you're awake

Breeding was our freedom
oh, but now it's killing me to know...
Knowledge was our freedom
oh, But now it's killing me to know...
You were our freedom
oh, but now it's killing me to know...
Kills me to know
you can suffer

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

We are very fortunate to be surrounded by a lot of people who believe in us. We want to thank our family and friends for always being there supporting and encouraging us to continue, Victor from California Studios for helping us give power and quality to our sound with his magic, and Argonauta Records for believing in our project and welcoming us under their wise guidance, the media like you who support us and give us a voice to reach further, and above all, the audience who is there, those who have been with us and those who have just joined. Without you, this would not be possible.

8. Something to add?

Thank you very much for the interview! And we encourage everyone to follow us on social media, YouTube, Spotify, etc., and to share the musical journey with us. There are still many stories to tell.
