Interviews: Blowfuse

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Skate Punk/Punk Rock band Blowfuse from Spain. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

It all started when we were just a bunch of teenagers with a shitty band called Godfarts. After playing a few years together for funsies, we decided to take the band to the next level, starting with the name. It's funny we all thought about it individually and one day someone said it out loud and we all agreed. It felt natural. So we brainstormed for a few days and we ended up with 10 names, Institution, and Blowfuse being our favorites. Since we were not sure we decided to leave it to luck & destiny. My dad Javier made us choose two numbers, one assigned to each name: he took out this esoteric book and read the meaning attributed to each of them. Blowfuse was “the beast”, so there you have it!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We met Oscar in high school and the first band that united us was The Offspring. We shared the same love for the same bands so since day one we decided to start a band, influenced by mainly Californian punk rock. From there and still to this day we have been discovering new bands that keep inspiring us to create something unique. As of now, punk rock is our first and greatest drive, however, there are no taboos when it comes to throwing other genres to the table. We do whatever we want, no matter the style or genre.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Oscar started the course in Sergi's class and in a matter of a month we already started the band, with no musical education whatsoever. We’ve known Henry for almost 10 years, I swear he never skipped a single Blowfuse show in Barcelona! Over time we became friends so we asked him to come tour with the band. After Vic’s departure, it felt natural that Henry would get the place.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

I can speak for everyone when I say that we don't have a favorite band. It's just impossible to decide! We all listen to A LOT of very different music from every genre. But If we were to choose it would be:

Sergi: Oasis, Incubus, Turnstile, 311

Ricard: Living Color, Jellyfish, King's X, RKL

Henry: RATM, Tool

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

It's all part of a self-improvement path. Blowfuse is our creative vehicle, it's our way to communicate to the world, to ourselves. So the drive would be to get as close to our truths. Having said that, we find inspiration in all kinds of stuff: it can be other bands, someone's success story, or just a sunny day. Personally, I tend to listen to increasingly complex music, as it inspires me to always go one step further from what I already know.

6. Where was your last gig?

Lisbon, Portugal. We played for the 20th anniversary of Infected Records, one of our record labels since we started, run by lovely people.

7. Where would you like to act?

Anywhere our music is appreciated, to be honest. I would also love to tour around South and North America, never been there and it calls for adventure. Hellfest & Download Fest too, I’d say the biggest European rock festivals nowadays? 8. Whom would you like to feature with? Jim Lindberg from Pennywise, Corey Glover from Living Colour, Doug Pinnick from King´s X, Jason Sears (RIP), Fat Mike from NOFX, and the list goes on and on.

9. Whom not?

Bad Bunny, although it could result in a funny mix.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

I don't recall feeling frightened on stage, nor my colleagues I believe. But of course, going out on stage has made us overcome several fears. The best thing about having a band is that you are never alone, you always have your brothers by your side, therefore you will never make a fool of yourself alone, and if you do, they will support you. I think it can be very useful to relax and explain things to yourself before going on stage, for example, telling yourself that what other people think is not so important, that what you think is largely imagination, that you have to start from the beginning if you want to go far (but we always want to start out as geniuses haha)... I will only be able to overcome my fears if I face them, and it takes courage to voluntarily take myself to that place of suffering.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The Offspring, AFI, RKL, King’s X, Living Colour, Fishbone, Pennywise, Oasis, Turnstile, Pearl Jam, Suicidal Tendencies, 311…

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

There's this girl who whenever she sees us, asks Oscar to draw whatever he wants to in 3 seconds. Whatever the result ends up being, she tattooed it on her.

13. What do you think of your fans?

It might sound cliché, but without the people who listen to us, we would not be here. To even think that we have fans around the glove, who listen to our music daily, sport our merch and collect every album, and showing up to our shows… we could not feel but eternally grateful to them

14. What do you think of our site?

It's just great! It's rare to see so much effort, perseverance, dedication, and passion these days.

15. Something to add?

Thank you very much for having us and see you very very soon!
