Interviews About Albums: Kafod - Ciclos (2023)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Chilean Progressive Rock band Kafod to ask questions about their album "Ciclos"

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

This new album "Ciclos" is an important milestone in our career as a band and as a family, since it is the first album in which the entire family participates, both in the recording and in its production. It features, for the first time, our 14-year-old drummer son, Juan Salvador, on the drums.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

The name "Cycles" comes precisely from the cycles that we have experienced as a family and band during the last 14 years, which began with the birth of our son, currently our drummer; as well as endings and new beginnings in a different place, meeting new people and retracing a new path.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

Mainly, the composer and writer of the songs is Carlos, who in turn is the producer, guitarist, bassist, and singer in Kafod, as well as the father of the family.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

One of my favorites is “Déjennos Vivir” (Let us live), but I also have a special affection for “Blue”, since it represents the feeling that many probably felt during the pandemic, the time in which that song was written.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

Mostly, the album expresses different feelings around situations experienced during the last 7 years, but as usual in our songs, the environmental theme is something that has always been linked to our music, due to the great affection we have for nature and its conservation.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

You can find the lyrics of our songs on digital platforms and in the booklet that is inserted in our CD, but if I have to mention a phrase from a song, I would stay with...

"realize that there are not many more
places where you can escape
and live in calm,
and live in soul,
and live with others."

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Nature has always been an inspiration for us, as well as our family and children. This album is dedicated to them.

8. Something to add?

We believe that this album will mark a before and after in our artistic career, precisely because of what I mentioned before, which is the first work done completely as a family; even the cover art was done by our keyboardist and mom at Kafod, Paula Demarco, who is a great illustrator.
