Interviews About Albums: Omega Diatribe - Deviant (2023)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Hungarian Groove Metal band Omega Diatribe to ask questions about their album "Deviant"

1. What can you say about this new CD?

Gergo Hajer: Our brand new record Deviant is the purest form of what is in the depths of our souls in the last period. We express ourselves with killer grooves, crushing riffs, in-your-face vocals, and deep melodies. For those who have already heard our music, I could describe it as the continuation of our 2020 album Metanoia in a wilder and more forward form.

2. What is the meaning of the CD name?

Akos Szathmary: The title Deviant, refers to how the world has turned inside out. What we considered normal and permanent in the last 30 years has shifted towards extremes. We fell from one extreme to the other, and thus in fact, even more powerful conflicts were born from the most positive trends. The deviant became the normal and the normal became the deviant.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD?

Gergo Hajer: I usually write the songs in my studio, which we finalize in the rehearsal room with the guys. This did not happen differently this time either, except that the two new members, Gróf Adolf and János Kelemen, also took part in certain songs. This had a refreshing effect on the band and really great songs were created on the album, without exception.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Gergo Hajer: You know, it's always changing. I can’t pick just one song, because the whole record is a banger. But if you ask which song I would recommend to someone who should introduce the record with a certain song, it would be the song called My Sphere. It has everything that we deliver on the new record: sick grooves, monstrous riffing, and a very emotional chorus without turning our music to pop, lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPgleeap6G8

Akos Szathmary: For me, it is Seclusion now. It’ll never be the most popular I think, but so many emotions swirl in it. I recommend checking it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imKKp6IkTh4

5. Is there a special message in this CD? If there is what it is?

Akos Szathmary: Maybe it's to try to break away from the many negative influences and have a good time, take advantage of the opportunity, and live the experiences. The most important and most often avoided topic is that you have to learn to process the passing away. Fight even in your darkest times because you are not alone. We hope that this record will give strength to many people, just as many artists have given strength to us.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

Gergo Hajer: It turned out that I also wrote the majority of the lyrics for Deviant. A lot of crap has happened around me since covid, which I really enjoyed writing out of myself in the form of lyrics. So the lyrics of the new songs are very deep for me, but maybe not just only for me because I think many people will be able to identify with them. I specifically paid attention to the prosody, and the rhymes, and that the segmentation supported the instrumental as best as possible. I think the lyrics and instrumental correlate best on this new album.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Gergo Hajer: I think I can speak for all of us, that our music mainly comes from negative experiences given by life. Our music is a perfect way to release these feelings and therefore remain balanced in our private lives. Music is definitely a therapy for us! Akos Szathmary: I lost my father in 2023, so for me, the processing of his death left its mark on the Deviant record. In this way, the artwork design of the Digipak version also presents an abstract process of resignation to death.

8. Something to add?

Gergo Hajer: Thank you all for your continuous support throughout the years! We’re preparing to tour Europe with our new record Deviant so keep your eyes on our social media and see you on tour! Peace out.

Akos Szathmary: Also check out our merchandise at Metal.hu webshop. We have some really fancy stuff for y’all to spend your money on, haha... Thank you for having us. See Ya. https://metal.hu/shop/en/cimke/omega-diatribe/
