Interviews: Slaughtersun
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal band Slaughtersun from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
I ultimately got the name from the album Slaughtersun (Crown of the Triarchy) by the band Dawn. It is one of my favorite black metal albums and it surprisingly appeared that no one else had used it as a band name. Also, it sounds sick.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Death metal has always intrigued and resonated with me; there is nothing else that sounds like it and it evokes feelings that no other genre can. Because of that, it is only fitting that I began writing with this style as the primary sonic influence.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Cody and I are both active members of Thank You Scientist but we first met around 2013 playing various local gigs. I also play in Cody's band We Used To Cut The Grass which is original music largely influenced by Frank Zappa. I know Jason and Justin through one of the studios I work for, Frightbox Recording where I've produced records by their bands Tombsonter and Cranial Damage respectively. Each of these musicians excel at their craft and I felt they would each make exceptional contributions to Slaughtersun.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Ben - Ozzy Osbourne
Cody - Frank Zappa
Jason - Death
Justin - Napalm Death
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
My inspiration is to express what I cannot do so with words alone. To channel every ounce of negative energy I have in me and transform it into doing something constructive and meaningful, releasing it and leaving me unburdened to live my life. To leave our own legacy which nobody else can do.
6. Where was your last gig?
Slaughtersun will make its first live appearance in 2024.
7. Where would you like to act?
Everywhere where people want to listen.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Demilich, Gorguts or At The Gates are some top choices of the countless bands we'd like to play with.
9. Whom not?
Anyone who aesthetically doesn't make for a fitting live bill.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Yes. Fix it by getting out and playing over and over again.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Demilich, Cannibal Corpse, Gorguts, At The Gates, Dissection, Black Dahlia Murder, Ozzy Osbourne, Emperor, Carcass, Lykathea Aflame, Northless
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
During a Thank You Scientist gig at a moment of complete silence where you can hear a pin drop in the venue, a fan asks us, "Do you like Mastadon?"
13. What do you think of your fans?
From what I can tell they are all decent people.
14. What do you think of our site?
Your site is excellent, thank you for including us.
15. Something to add?
We were buddies, Harold. You, me, and Fresno Bob; you know what they did to Bob?
