Interviews About Albums: Martikor - Acedia (2024)
In this new interview, we sat down with the American Black Metal/Doom Metal/Post-Metal/Sludge Metal artist Martikor to ask questions about his album "Acedia".
1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?
Acedia is our second album. It builds upon our sound which is inspired by various elements like atmospheric sludge, post-metal, black metal, and experimental textures. Conceptually, it delves into the intricate process of exploring the anticipation and reflection associated with grief. Each track aims to confront and navigate the shadowy corners of the psyche, and the dark nature of the music serves as a reflection of the transformative power inherent in the exploration of complex human emotions.
2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?
Acedia can be defined as torpor, of not caring or not being concerned with one's position or condition in the world. In another sense, it means spiritual apathy
3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?
Lenn is the main composer on this record
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
It is very difficult to pick a favorite, but if I must, I'll probably choose “Born Among Thorns”. All the songs on this record mean a lot to me, but this one might be a bit more special for me personally!
5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?
This record deals with the complex emotions associated with grief, particularly the anticipation of it. It is inspired by events that have occurred in my personal life and those of my loved ones over the past couple of years. Art has always been my primary emotional outlet, and this album is a product of that.
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
I'm not sure if I want to share any specific parts, but I think it would be interesting to follow the lyrics if you listen to this record as a whole. Personally, the lyrics in the album reflect the emotional journey I've experienced, beginning with turmoil and concluding with my pursuit of peace.
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?
As I mentioned, conceptually, the album is inspired by my personal experiences. Musically, I am influenced by the incredible artists I've admired for years! In terms of tapping into the emotional space necessary for songwriting, I find inspiration in other art forms, particularly visual art.
8. Something to add?
