Interviews: Capstan

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Post-Hardcore band, Capstan, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

Our guitarist Harrison and singer Anthony originally founded Capstan as a recording project, and named it after the device that winds the tape in the process.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We tend to traverse quite a few genres, but basically, we all just grew up at the height of Warped Tour, and love all the styles represented there!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Harrison and our bassist Andrew have actually known each other since grade school and coincidentally were familiar with one of Anthony’s old local bands as well.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Far too many for each member to list, but a few top common choices would be The 1975, Periphery, Mayday Parade, Every Time I Die, and Stray From The Path.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The love and support of our families and friends, and the desire to give the gift of music back to the people who seek comfort and catharsis in it, the way we did as youths.

6. Where was your last gig?

West Columbia, SC. We were heading back home right after ending a tour with the splendidly talented Holding Absence.

7. Whom would you like to feature with?

I think we would really enjoy doing some collaborations/features with some of the heavier bands we listen to, like Spite, Left To Suffer, or ten56.

8. Whom not?

Hard to think of an answer without it just feeling like trash talk! MGK?

9. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

I feel like everyone experiences stage fright in some capacity when they first begin performing live. Practice the songs to the point where you can play them without focusing on them. Meditate.

10. What bands have inspired you the most?

As a band we very much admire Silverstein! They have impressively carved their own path and stayed relevant in this music scene for over 20 years.

11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Signatures from the whole band on his bicep/shoulder so he could get them all tattooed. That show was the first time he heard of our band.

12. What do you think of your fans?

It’s so cliche, but truly, without them we are nothing. Our fans are extremely dedicated, we owe them everything, and are so thankful for their continued support.

13. What do you think of our site?

I think it’s great that you all show love to and cover so many small and up-and-coming bands! So cool!

14. Something to add?

Our new single “Misery Scene” is out now, and our new record “The Mosaic” will be released May 24th, go check it out!
