Interviews: Shadowspire

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band, Shadowspire, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the project on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name?

The name for the band came to us organically, it sort of just matched what we were doing. A shadow, somewhere between the light and dark, and the spire. I (Emery) was born in England and there's a lot of imagery like that in the country, it felt like it was a good fit.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I think that we both wanted to experiment musically and create something special, Tyler loves classic death metal and wanted an outlet to do something a little different and has always appreciated metalcore as a genre, I have always gravitated towards music that has great heaviness but also melodic quality and control. It was the perfect genre to hone our craft on.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We actually did not, it's an unusual project being completely remote, we met on a page on Facebook in mid-January looking for a collaboration. I posted that I was looking for a metal vocalist for an up-and-coming metal project, Tyler responded and we have been working together ever since. He beat out 36 other applicants from eight different countries

4. Each member's favorite band?

Tyler's favorite band is Death, hands down. I really enjoy the newer metalcore bands, Polaris and Currents are some of my favorites right now, they're killing it on the scene.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We are both very inspired by the thrill of music, getting that creative spark when you are lost in everyday life is what pushes us forward and without it, we would be truly lost. That is our inspiration.

6. Where was your last gig?

We haven't had any shows yet! We would love to in the future but our head right now is very much in the writing and recording process. We're starting to see how we meld together as a team, to build that initial fan base and foundation is very important to us, it'll be our success in the future we feel. We have plenty of things to work and we're excited about that.

7. Where would you like to act?

We'd love to play a couple festivals in the future to open, it would be a great experience for us to get out there and see what we can learn from other great bands that are doing the same thing that we are, we have to earn that opportunity but I'm hopeful that we can show the world what we've got in us.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Oh man, there are so many great artists to feature with. Maybe a killer guitar player like Ola Englund, I think in terms of style it could be very interesting to fuse together a couple different fan-favorite metal genres and also at the same time just be in awe of greatness.

9. Whom not?

We're open to anything, never say never on collaborating because you'll never know where you'll be or where you'll end up in the future.

10. Have you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Of course, stage fright is a real thing, and anyone that hasn't had it is lying haha. We think just remembering to take a deep breath and pretending that you're at a practice session and everyone is just watching you jam. If you make a mistake don't acknowledge it and carry on, stay confident but nut never arrogant, note your shortcomings, and grow.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

For Tyler, Chuck Schuldiner, (Death) and Trevor Strnad (The Black Dahlia Murder) are important influences to him among others. For me, Listening to bands like Pantera and Arch Enemy changed my entire perspective on what could be accomplished in music.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has asked you for?

That's a good question! We don't have many fans yet so we haven't run into that situation yet, but we're looking forward to the day that we are.

13. What do you think of your fans?

It's been great interacting with a couple fans on social media, though only a few have actually heard of us, we're just grateful for the chance to put our music out there in the world, that's the most important thing to us.

14. What do you think of our site?

We think the site is awesome! Thank you for allowing us the chance to do this.

15. Something to add?

We want to thank everyone involved and that has contributed to this project in some way, we have a lot of special surprises in store and planned releases, we can't wait to share them with you soon. It'll be the year of the Shadowspire for sure, thanks again.
