Interviews: Vorus
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal band, Vorus, from Romania. Check out the interview and follow the project on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
I was looking for a name that fits the style we play. Vorus is a short and symmetrical word in a way at the moment of creating the logo and can be read in any language the same way, also is easy to remember. Vorus is a Latin suffix and means the act of devouring greedily. I think fits perfectly for a death metal band name.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Well as an old timer and underground metal lover who was very active with tape trading back in the time when death metal was a new thing, I got captivated by many great death metal demos circulating at that time that I really wanted to start my own band and play extreme metal too, so I did and I've been playing death metal since the late 80's. Is the only style I can actually play hehe! it comes naturally for me I guess.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
I started the band by myself and released the first demo "Chamber of Laments" as a man band, then I invited my wife Corina to join me on bass guitar (by then she was a retired metal bassist with experience in death metal bands back in the '90s) we stayed as a duo for 2 years until we met Doru our drummer in 2019 and with him, we recorded a 4-way split and our second album "Traversing the non-existence" back in 2021. The last member to join the band was Filip (rhythm guitar). I met him in 2019 when I designed the logo for his band Necrotum and we became good friends (despite the fact that he was about 18 years old back then) then in 2020 we formed a band together called Putred, so was kind of natural to invite him to join Vorus by the end of 2021.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
We all have different tastes but we all agree with these bands as faves: old Death, old Sepultura, old Necrophagia, Slaughter, old Morbid Angel, Deicide, old Kreator, old Sodom, King Diamond, Master, Obituary, Massacra, Cancer, Gorguts, Incubus, Morgoth, Immolation, Grave, Bolt Thrower, Morta Skuld, Wombbath etc
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
80s underground thrash and death metal demos and albums, 80s B horror movies, HP Lovecraft, the brutal reality of life and death, etc are many sources of inspiration for sure.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last live performance was in September last year at Psychosounds Fest in Bucharest, Romania.
7. Where would you like to act?
We really enjoy performing live in Romania but we also want to play out, we have already some invitations to play in a few countries in Europe, The US, and Mexico but nothing is concrete yet, hope to do it this year or next.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Well would be awesome to share the stage with bands we grew up listening to but the majority of them are no longer around hehe!
9. Whom not?
Metalcore or deathcore bands.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Not really, just a bit nervous for 2, to 3 mins before start to play. To avoid any stage fright I think the best is to keep your mind busy and focus on your actual playing/delivery instead.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
ld Possessed, old Death, old Necrophagia, Slaughter, Deathstrike, Infernal Majesty, Incubus, Num Skull, the Brazilian Vulcano, Chakal, Holocausto, Sarcofago, etc
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Nothing out of the norm.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Ours are very dedicated, supportive, and loyal die-hard metalheads indeed! We are grateful for our small but strong following, they are the best!
14. What do you think of our site?
Really cool source of info and news about our daily bread which is metal! keep doing the good work!
15. Something to add?
We'd like to thank you for the exposure and space given here and don't forget to get our new album Desolate Eternities, on CD, coming out March 1st via Loud Rage Music. In Death...
