Interviews: Malombra

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Dark Heavy Metal band, Malombra, from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

We got it from the title of the most important Italian Gothic-Romantic novel (dated 1881).

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Because it was an incredible crossroad of all the influences and genres that every single member brought into the project.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Note that the current line-up is different from the original one which in turn at that time consisted of members of two bands who “joined forces” to form something new.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

There are actually too many to mention here; however, here are some: Magma, Black Sabbath, David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Van Der Graaf Generator.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Our inspiration mainly comes from the need to escape from everyday life and the reality of an intolerable age.

6. Where was your last gig?

In Genova, our city, as part of the bill of a big Prog Festival.

7. Where would you like to act?

We love places where you can breathe History and Art, but also a well-organized festival would be much appreciated.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Again: too many to mention. Let's say, Peter Hammill, Marc Almond, and the Italian Horror Maestros Goblin.

9. Whom not?

We don't like to talk against fellow musicians. There are obviously genres we don't like, but it's not important to talk about that.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Never suffered from stage fright. Our tip to the beginners? Well, just remember that you worked so hard for that, so just jump on the stage, enjoy it and rock'em out!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Some bands of the late Psychedelic underworld like High Tide, Arzachel, Arcadium, Salem Mass, and others.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A guy asked us to be his Best Men. Yes, all of us. Great idea, except that he forgot to tell me he was getting married in Yucatan, Mexico...

13. What do you think of your fans?

Without them, there would be no reason to go on.

14. What do you think of our site?

We think the best and have the greatest respect for all webzines. You all “serve a mission”, in some way. A true “heritage”, in times like these.

15. Something to add?

Do not conform yourselves to this age and to prejudices. You can find good music anywhere, just look for it.
