Interviews: Zero One

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band Zero One from the UK. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or did it just come out like that?

We’re not actually sure. It started as us trying to mash random words together until we had something we thought sounded good. It means the end result is a little bit ambiguous - something we feel anyone can apply their own meaning to, which we like.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We love metal. We love the aggression and the energy it brings. There’s something about playing music that you can really get into and feel - and this scratches that itch for us.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

So, our guitarist Ross and vocalist David are actually brothers. As an extension of this - Ross, our drummer Dylan, and bassist Ally all met in high school and have remained close friends since, largely due to their shared love of music. As we evolved our sound, we decided another guitarist would be very beneficial, which is where our other guitarist Corey came into things. Having recently moved back to Scotland and being a friend of David’s, his joining the group was a no-brainer.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

David - Sleep Token

Ross - Northlane

Corey - Periphery

Ally - The Stone Roses

Dylan - Smashing Pumpkins

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

For us, it’s all about making music that we would want to hear. If you wouldn’t listen to your music if you didn’t make it, then is it really worth it?

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was a local Edinburgh show for Red Crust Fest - a grassroots festival in the city center with a wide variety of metal acts. We loved it. It was great exposure for us to fans who wouldn’t normally come see us, and it also gave us a chance to support some other great local bands.

7. Where would you like to play?

It’s got to be the Download Festival. Playing alongside the biggest names in the scene while getting our music out to a large group of like-minded people - that’s the dream.

8. Who would you like to support?

I think it would probably have to be Bring Me The Horizon. For me (and most of the band), it’s one of the ones we’ve grown up listening to, been inspired by, and are still active. I love how much their sound has changed over the years, and it’s incredible how they’ve managed to stay so damn consistent.

9. Who not?

Honestly, Trapt.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Nerves are normal before a show, doesn’t matter how up for it you are. But as soon as you start playing, that’ll all go.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Growing up, we’ve all loved metal and its various subgenres. Because of this, we draw from a wide pool of influences, trying to always branch into new genres and experiment with things. Generally, we are influenced by various acts to come out of the metalcore, djent, and even nu-metal scenes, but to name some of the bands that crop up a lot: Loathe, Northlane, Volumes, Deftones.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I wouldn’t say it’s too weird but we’ve had someone ask us to make vinyl. We’d love to but we’re not there… yet. Maybe soon.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Love them. Have to give a massive thanks for all the support we’ve had so far. We do this as a hobby because, at the end of the day, we love it. If what we do resonates with you or you just vibe with it, then much love to you.

14. What do you think of our site?

As big supporters of new, fresh music, we love that you give attention and a voice to underground bands. The community needs more like you.

15. Something to add?

Just thanks for having us. Our new EP ‘Faults In My Design’ releases 31st May - make sure to check it out when it drops and if you haven’t heard our newest single ‘These Visions’, give it a spin.
