Interviews About Albums: Devitalized - State Of Aggression (2024)

In this new interview, we sat down with the American Deathcore band Devitalized to ask questions about their album, "State Of Aggression".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

JP: One thing I can definitely say is that the State of Aggression is worth a listen. It's a mix of genres, but we keep it unique and fun!

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

JP: The meaning behind the album title State of Aggression is that the world is in deep trouble, straight up. Everywhere you look, there’s war here, genocide there, innocent people being marginalized, abused, slaughtered. We’re truly living in a world with more hate than peace. The title also came from being in a state of mind that’s so aggressive and filled with rage, but we played with the words as if we were living in an actual state of aggression!

3. Who composed the CD/EP?

We all composed it! Dawson and JoJo wrote the guitars, Tommy joined midway through the album cycle but helped write some bass and lyrics. I (JP) wrote lyrics and found a passionate flow for each song, and Tay, our good friend, helped us come up with the drums. We all played significant roles in the band while also being able to help each other!

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you choose?

JP: For me, "Karma Sutra." The song is about the Garden of Eden and the sin of sex, a play on the idea of the Kama Sutra. The more I listen to it, the more I love it. I mean, the catchy verse/chorus, the out-of-place gnarly breakdown. It fucking hits!

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is, what is it?

JP: Absolutely, our message is that no matter where you are, no matter what your state of mind is, your voice matters. Your opinion, your rights, and your ideologies matter. We are human. We are a species of intelligent life with the potential to create amazing things. Never give up on yourself!

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

JP: “I look into your eyes, I see your mind and the war inside, never-ending so hear my cry, I spoke to the devil and I’m ready to die” is a line from our song "X_X." It’s a suicide letter. That line is basically you looking into the mirror one last time before letting the darkness take over. It’s you telling yourself you’re ready. In retrospect, you’d think you’d be trying to walk someone off the ledge, but truthfully, the only one who can back off is yourself.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

JP: Well, first off, I want to thank my bandmates: Dawson, JoJo, Tommy, Tay, and Andrew. These guys have made me come out of my comfort zone and really showed me how to overcome my mental demons. They showed me a brighter, better path for myself and helped me find peace within myself. I want to thank my dad for always motivating me and never giving up on my brother and me. Last but not least, all our amazing supporters who buy merch, repost or like our posts, comment, etc. Support is support, and we are more than grateful for whatever kind of support we receive.

8. Something to add?

JP: Be kind to yourself, and never ever give up on your hopes and dreams. Work hard, grind every day, and you will succeed! All it takes is a simple "good morning" to make someone’s entire day. Be kind to others as it’s free.
