Interviews About Albums: Disruption - Disruption (2024)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Swedish Metal band Disruption to ask questions about their album, "Disruption".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

It took time to complete this ep. Many hours of blood, sweat, and tears to get it done. We wanted our musical width to show in these songs without losing our drive, energy, and ID. Another obstacle to overcome was that the music spans over 20 years, forcing the new Disruption, to merge with the old, where we left off as youngsters. We were quite unsure if we would be able to pull it off, keeping the common thread throughout the ep, all six songs. And with three guitarists (Mike, Tom, and Peter) who needed to find a balance in this new concept. How can we gain the benefits of being three guitarists and use them in a way that makes it interesting and contributes to the song? But in the end, we couldn't be more proud and pleased with the result. It's a big flirt with the concept of old school, in an upscaled 2.0 version, from the writing to the performance and production.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

The ep is self-titled "Disruption". It's more of a statement of Disruptions rebirth, after many years in dormancy. A message, right in your face, "We're back".

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

Everyone in the band has been involved in the writing process of these songs somehow. The main riff composer on this ep though is guitarist Mikael Lundqvist who also makes his debut as a lyricist together with vocalist Jonas Renvaktar. But it's when we're all in the same room, playing together, that makes Disruption sound like Disruption. Everyone has their special skills that they take to the band and contribute to the music.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Hmm....... it's tough to only choose one. "Rebirth" is the first song we wrote together and the song which clarifies the "Disruption sound". But I can't stop with that, hehe. "Kvarnsten" is our first song ever written in the Swedish language. Raw explicit lyrics with aggressive energetic sound. Last I just have to mention "What remains of nothing", jumpstarted like Frankensteins monster... "It's alive" after many years in waiting to see the sun again. But now is the right time, we've just finished filming this song as our second music video. We're so excited and are looking forward to sharing this with you.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what is it?

The whole concept and message of the ep is "Rebirth". A rebirth gives you the opportunity to redo, and do right. Implemented on individuals, society, and the world we live in. That includes a "rebirth" of the mind, for us as individuals to be able of critically. It's more important than ever, to live in a world of fake news.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

There are many lyrics to choose between, but I guess it would be "Rebirth". This lyric is written in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. Inspired by the changes in society, with lockdowns and restrictions. How authority controls the masses.

"See The pain arise
Keep your distance or fall dead
I feed you fear, with the intent to keep you Isolated, Regulated, Violated, Anahillated
The whole world of agony
Fake News or speak The truth"

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

We inspire each other, always pushing ourselves to write better songs and perform it at our best. That's the greatest benefit of being more than one composer. If someone comes up with a heavy-ass riff, it inspires and challenges us all to do better, or at least at the same level. We've been inspired and grew up listening to bands like Metallica, Pantera Slayer, etc. But the "Gothenburg sound" with bands like, At the Gates and In Flames was also a big influence on our music.

8. Something to add?

If you like our music and are true metalheads like us we have good news for you. You can pre-order our EP on vinyl and choose between two versions.
