Interviews About Albums: Sermon - Till Birth Do Us Part (2024)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Turkish Death Metal/Doom Metal band Sermon to ask questions about their album, "Till Birth Do Us Part".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

In fact, the album was released in 2023. It consists of 8 songs and 56 minutes of doom/death metal. It is a debut that is physically released in digipack by the French label Bitume Prods. It is also released digitally by the mighty Earache Records Digital Distribution from the United Kingdom.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

Till Birth Do Us Part signifies that the journey to death is beginning with birth. Birth separates you and your life source and you become left alone in the journey you enter which will inevitably end with death. That’s why we have chosen this name and used the cover which is about the most common mother and child figure on the planet, Mary and baby Jesus.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

Durmus is the main composer of our songs. He undertakes the composition of all melodies, guitars, strings, and keyboards. In the album, the drums were written by him too. But for the upcoming album, the drums will be recorded acoustically by our drummer Serhan. All vocals and lyrics are composed by Harun.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

It is not easy to pick just one song from the album. But maybe Destined to Decline can be the most definitory song that expresses Sermon since it contains all of the elements the band is using, like distorted guitars, solos, strings, keyboards, and clean and brutal vocals in one song.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

This album is mainly about cosmic perishment or revenge caused by natural disasters. It also touches upon some philosophical and gnostic views.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

You should check the whole booklet in my opinion.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Generally, the experience of living and seeing is the main inspiration. Our perceptions are always open. Lyrically we have been influenced by some verses of Charles Baudelaire and cited them in a couple of songs.

8. Something to add?

Thank you so much for the interview and greetings to everyone out there! Stay doomed…
