Interviews: Fading Echoes
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metal band Fading Echoes from Greece. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out
just like that?
The name "Fading Echoes" was inspired by our collective love for the ethereal and
transient nature of music. We wanted a name that encapsulated the fleeting, yet
powerful, impact that a piece of music can have on someone. It wasn't a spur-of-the-moment decision; we brainstormed various ideas until "Fading Echoes"
resonated with all of us. It symbolizes the lingering effects of our music long after
the last note has been played.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Melodic progressive metal combines the complexity and technicality of
progressive music with the emotional depth and melody of metal, which perfectly
aligns with our musical tastes and skills. We love the challenge it presents and the
creative freedom it offers. This genre allows us to explore intricate compositions
and convey profound emotions, making it the perfect medium for our artistic
expression. Plus, it's enjoyable to play!
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
No, the members in the current lineup met in order to form the band. This
happened years ago, so we've been through a lot together since then. Our journey
has been marked by shared experiences, challenges, and growth, which have
forged a strong bond among us, both musically and personally.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
We've all got our own favorites, but there's definitely some overlap. Bands like
Savatage, Evergrey, Dream Theater... Those are the ones we can all agree on!
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
I wrote all the lyrics and most of the music. Vasilis (Piano) contributed significantly
to the musical compositions with 2 of the songs being based on his ideas.
Inspiration was found on my personal experiences of loss and going through really
tough situations. The album starts with the concept of pentalogy of the five stages
of grief, them being Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. We
made a song out of each stage to explore those feelings, that more or less
everyone has experienced at least once in their lives. It is a really emotional
journey and from the feedback we've received, the songs really convey that
emotional rollercoaster that is any tragic event. All 8 songs of the album are
unique, with a special approach to composition, where we don't follow any norm
on song structure. The songs are stories with a beginning, a middle, and an end.
6. Where was your last gig?
As Fading Echoes, we have yet to have our first gig, but we are so looking forward
to playing our music live! As individuals, we have a lot of experience playing live
shows, and we can't wait to bring that energy and experience to our performances
as a band.
7. Where would you like to act?
Anywhere and everywhere, really! From small local spots to huge outdoor
festivals, we want to get our music out there and connect with people.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We are honored to have collaborated with Zak Stevens, the esteemed vocalist of
Savatage, on our song "Acceptance." Moving forward, we remain open to the
possibility of collaborating with artists whose vision and creativity resonate with our
own, regardless of genre or background.
9. Whom not?
We're pretty open-minded when it comes to collaborations, but I guess anyone whose
style doesn't really mesh with ours might be a bit tough.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on
how to beat that?
Oh yeah, stage fright is real! But honestly, the more you perform, the easier it gets.
And just remember, the crowd's on your side—they want you to rock it!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Bands we mentioned before like Savatage, Opeth, Anathema, and Evergrey... have deeply influenced our sound, and their melodic and emotional depth is
something we all admire and strive to incorporate into our music, but I want to
believe that we have managed to create a signature sound!
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Nothing too crazy yet, but we've had some super eager fans asking about the
release date for "Shadow of Another." Trust us, it's coming soon!
13. What do you think of your fans?
We are facing the challenge of reaching new ears with our debut album. Being a
new band, people need to find us and give us a chance to win them over with our
music. Our fans' support and enthusiasm mean everything to us, and we are
excited to grow our community.
14. What do you think of our site?
Your site is awesome! Seriously, it's like a goldmine for metalheads. I've
discovered so many cool bands on there—it's definitely a must-visit for any metal
fan! We are grateful for the chance to appear on your site and thank you for the
opportunity!
15. Something to add?
Keep an eye out for "Shadow of Another" dropping soon! We teamed up with the
label Wormholedeath Records for the physical distribution of the album
worldwide! We poured our hearts and souls into it, and we can't wait for you all to
hear it. Soon we will have the release date announced and we can't wait to see
how the world will welcome it! Rock on!
