Interviews: MALUM

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Black Metal band MALUM from Norway. Check out the interview and follow the band on their INSTAGRAM PROFILE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

When choosing the band name it was important to use something that mirrors the overall theme. Malum is Latin and translates to evil, something hurtful and bad.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

The extreme expression always spoke to me, and the music went hand in hand with the lyrics. To me, it's very honest and I want to make music I can stand by.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

No. It started out as a studio project with a former friend. As changes had to be made, I recruited musicians I knew, but they did not know each other. Everyone showed up to represent the music and entity that is Malum.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Mayhem, Mgla, Kly and Oranssi Pazuzu

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

One of the main inspirations is to create something we believe is missing in the scene, something honest, atmospheric, and at times groovy.

6. Where was your last gig?

Malum has yet to do our debut gig in Oslo on 06.06.24, and we are currently planning several gigs this year.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would like to spread our music to our listeners and give the scene a chance to see and hear the overall quality we are bringing.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

The next EP and album are currently being planned, and we are bringing some new elements. So there will be some guest appearances by musicians who are not into black metal. Overall we want to push our music to the next level

9. Whom not?

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

No, not really. When on stage as a band you represent something you stand by and are proud of. If it feels wrong then you should not do it, or find the right thing to represent

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Malum has a very specific sound and it's no secret that you can find inspiration from the Polish black metal scene.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

13. What do you think of your fans?

14. What do you think of our site?

Seems like a great network to explore new music, with interesting readings.

15. Something to add?

Thank you for the opportunity and for having me. It's great to see the underground so alive! Check out our album and EP. Much is in the works with Malum, and we are ready to bring the nausea to the scene.
