Interviews: Royal Rage

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Thrash Metal/Speed Metal band Royal Rage from Brazil. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

It came up naturally on a gaming night. While drinking some Royal Salute, we were remembering the video game Rampage, and how fun it was. suddenly it hit: Royal Rampage. For a while, we had that name, and due to a legal issue here in Brazil we had to change it, and Royal Rage just felt like the right choice. It sounds way better if I might say.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

It is the kind of thing that simply happens, you know? At the very beginning, we wanted to sound like the Black Label Society. But as things started to happen, songs were born, and suddenly we realized "Wait a minute, we are a thrash metal band!".

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

I (Pedro Ferreira) met the founding member of the school. After their departure, I ended up getting to know Airton Senna at a music school I was attending. Sol Perez and I had a friend in common who put us in touch, and Tiago Rodrigues was playing with a friend of mine at the time.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Pedro Ferreira - Exodus

Tiago Rodrigues - Gojira

Sol Perez - Guns n Roses

Airton Senna - Pink Floyd.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The one artist that really got me into writing songs was Steve Harris from Iron Maiden. The poetry of the lyrics had me going crazy in my teenage years!

6. Where was your last gig?

The last gig we had was in Curitiba, alongside Torture Squad.

7. Where would you like to act?

Our dream is to perform at the summer festivals in Europe.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Personally, I would love to have Gary Holt and Derrick Green in one of our songs.

9. Whom not?

Uh, hard one to answer. I guess Emanuel Aguilar.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Hell yeah, I have! Almost always, I'd say. But one thing that helps me be cool with it, is just to try to enjoy myself up there. There are always people who will cross their arms and stare at you, kind of saying "You suck". You have to shut them off and remember to have fun up there with your friends!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Oh, there's so many. But to list up five I'd say Exodus, Overkill, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

There was this guy who was pretty excited about my shoes and asked me to swap shoes with him. I obviously did not swap 'em and had a laugh about it later.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Great to have a fan base hungry for new bands! We love 'em, and we hope they love our album back!

14. What do you think of our site?

It is awesome to have a website like yours, promoting independent artists around the globe! We love it!

15. Something to add?

Don't forget to get a copy of our upcoming album, Evolve, to be released on June 11, and get our tickets to our first European tour! We see you on the road!
