Interviews: Tamala Park Book Club
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Visual Rock band Tamala Park Book Club from Australia. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or come out just like that?
It came from two of the band members, Craig and Patrick, thinking it would be funny to
name the band after the local rubbish tip, Tamara Park. The book club part is partly in
reference to Craig’s role as an English teacher and the ‘posh’ vibes of the hit anime Ouran
High School Host Club.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We love the pop-punk genre because it brings a lot of nostalgia from our teenage years.
We used to listen to bands like Blink-182, Green Day, the Amity Affliction and even some
Beach Boys. We can make what we want of it too, from upbeat and fast-paced songs like
“Ginger” to slower melancholic ballads like “Mistake”.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
No, not really. Patrick and Dan had been in a small group before, we found Marcel off
Facebook, and Craig got randomly contacted by Patrick one afternoon because he went to
school with a mutual friend!
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Marcel’s favourite band is Dayseeker, the same as Dan’s. Craig’s favourite band is the 1975
and Patrick’s is the Beach Boys.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We let our emotions and feelings guide us with most songs. Some other songs can be
informed from past events or experiences. Some songs are commentaries on society (see
“Can’t Spell Funeral Without Fun”).
6. Where was your last gig?
Lynotts Lounge Perth Western Australia
7. Where would you like to perform?
We would love to perform in big Perth venues like Metropolis
Fremantle, Magnet House and Metro City. Then we would love to go
over to the east of Australia and play shows in Sydney, Melbourne and
Brisbane. Finally, maybe one day we could go to the USA, Japan or
even New Zealand
8. Whom would you like to perform with?
Illyria, Soso, Shangrila, Eskimo
Joe, Short Stack
9. Whom not?
We don’t have any bands that we
would personally not perform with,
but I don’t think we would gel well
with Jazz or Reggae bands.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat
that?
Yeah, have best thing to do is just keep practising and not to take the gig to seriously
because mistakes do happen. You just have to roll with the punches and have fun with it!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
A lot of different bands have inspired us. The early TPBC was inspired by a lot of
Japanese Visual Kei bands like Vistlip, the Gazzette and An Café. Korean bands like Day6
gave us the ideas for good vocal melodies. Our vocal harmonies are inspired by older
bands like the Beatles and the Beach Boys. Our more up-to-date releases are inspired
heavily by bands in the Aussie scene like Short Stack, as well as international acts like the
1975.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Knowing Perth it’s usually a lighter or a vape.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Our fans are wonderful and very supportive!
Especially on TikTok, they share it all around.
14. What do you think of our site?
The site is very well put together and showcases
local acts very well!
15. Something to add?
If any of our fans have read this far please make
sure to stay hydrated and eat your greens.
