Behind The Tracks: ORKRIST - Prince Of Melancholy (Single) (2024)
“Prince of Melancholy” is a song we selected for the video from our last album. Musically it is a well-
balanced song – that has both female and male voice (even a nice duet in the middle), male grunts and
screams, heavy or even black metal drum part and as well little touch of doom. It represents the variety
of styles we are typically putting together in our music. If you like this song, you will like all our songs. If
you hate it, you will hate all as well.
Lyrics-wise if refers to and old fairy tale, which we could not reproduce as a story (for that we would
need to use actors, historic costumes/places/scene reconstruction, more days of shooting and reach a
kind of Hollywood production. All this would need unrealistic budget). Instead we just focused on the
band situated in a place with historic feeling – an old church in our country. The church is made
completely of wood, it has incredible atmosphere.

What would be interesting to mention: we were shooting this video sometime in November, where
outside it was 10 degrees Celsius and in the church it was 4 degrees (actually we went from time to time
out to get warmed little bit). We spent something like 5-6 hours in this cold, in costumes with short
sleeves and this was really painful. I (Crom, voice and keyboard) stepped completely down on the level
of my physical possibilities and felt that cold in my mind even 1 week after the shooting. We ended at
around 2’o clock in the morning and were happy there were no complaints in the city, because people
walking around would hear loud music and strong lights coming from the church windows. And why the
church? Not because of Christianity, but because of it’s traditional wooden architecture and the breath
of a fairytale when being there.
