Interviews: Melehan
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Death Metal artist Melehan from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the artist on his FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or come out just like that?
Since I am from England, I wanted a name that reflected that heritage with a little mystery. 'Melehan' is the son of Morded in the legend of King Arthur. I have named myself after him.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
I love death metal, but I like to explore a wider range of emotions. I feel that juxtaposing intense death metal riffs with other genres and moods emphasizes the emotional extremity that each section of my songs has to offer.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
I work alone
4. Each band member's favorite band?
My favorite band is Carach Angren. I love the theatre and the unpredictability of their music. In addition, I think Seregor's vocal delivery is one of the most carefully considered in the metal world and their storytelling impresses me.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Self-reflection. I feel that writing and performing music helps me to understand myself a little better.
6. Where was your last gig?
Melehan has never performed live.
7. Whom would you like to feature with?
Carach Angren or Ihsahn of course.
8. Whom not?
Any band that lacks subtlety.
9. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Part of overcoming stage fright is built on experience and the understanding that sometimes you are going to fail and that's okay. I used to suffer from stage fright but have overcome it a good deal now. First and foremost, you need to remember to enjoy yourself when performing, and beyond that, just try your best. Even if you have a bad show, as long as you can walk away from it having enjoyed yourself and with the knowledge that you did the best you could, then you can learn from the experience and aim higher next time around.
10. What bands have inspired you the most?
Certainly Ihsahn. I admire how he follows his heart in each new album he releases, and no matter what he does, his songcraft is exceptional. He also manages to capture a real mood of sinister melancholy that no other artist has ever really achieved (at least to my ears)
11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
To feature my music in a German music textbook!
12. What do you think of your fans?
I am humbled that they have taken the time to really consider my music and not just let it pass them by.
13. What do you think of our site?
I think it's a really awesome space for underground metal fans and artists to engage; a really exciting place to find new music!
