Interviews: Unburnt
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Post-Metal band Unburnt from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
As the idea of the band took shape, we searched for a name that sounded cool and conveyed our attraction to natural forces, cataclysms, and similar themes. We chose 'Unburnt' because it symbolizes how everything can start anew from the unburnt remnants of great fires. The name felt even more fitting, as the band was built upon the ashes of X-Endorphine.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We come from death metal and hardcore, but we wanted to explore something more organic and straightforward. This genre lets us create powerful, heavy sounds without overcomplicating things.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, absolutely. Most of us have been close friends for a long time, having met through different previous bands.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Yoann: Kownloon Walled City
Tom: Tool
Julien: Unfold
Nicolas: The Ocean
Seb: Pick one band is so hard for me. Alone in a desert isle I probably chose KoRn discography.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Our inspiration comes from the unpredictability of life, the darker sides of the human soul, and sometimes even the allure of lost causes.
Writing a new song is a complex process. It often begins with a general idea of the sound or fragments of music, and then we start building around lyrics written by Seb.
It can take several months, sometimes years! Every member of the band brings their influence. Which adds layers and depth to our music.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was on November 10, 2024, at Le Grillen in Colmar, where we had the chance to support Hangman’s Chair and DOOL.
7. Where would you like to act?
We’ve played extensively in our region so we’d love to extend our horizons. The Swiss scene is especially appealing to us, and playing in Switzerland would be fantastic!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
For our next album why not a featuring with a female singer… If anything is possible, maybe Karin Park or Emma Ruth Rundle.
9. Whom not?
Narrow-minded musicians. We value openness and creativity, and we believe collaboration should push boundaries, not limit them.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Julien: Yes, like everybody: technical issues, forgotten song parts, etc.
Here’s my advice: even if you’ve checked all your equipment and practiced everything, things can still go wrong. The key is to embrace the moment. Enjoy the experience, connect, and share with the audience as much as possible.
Nico: I have it every time - the first seconds are the hardest, it’s important to stay in the moment and not overthink.
Yoann: unless everyone in the crowd knows your songs perfectly, they likely won’t even notice if you make a mistake! So, if it happens, a poker face can be your best friend, just keep playing confidently, and the audience will not care.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Our inspirations come from bands like Isis, Unfold, The Ocean, and Neurosis. We’ve listened to them a lot. Each of them blends heaviness with atmosphere and depth. Their work has definitely inspired our sound
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We're not famous/sexy enough to have weird requests.
13. What do you think of your fans?
The fans who adhere to our music can only be people with a minimum of sensitivity and open-mindedness to an unformatted universe.
14. What do you think of our site?
We love that wherever you click, you’re discovering something new to listen to, and the Spotify playlist is perfect for those who want to dive straight into the music!
15. Something to add?
Thanks for the interview and for giving us the chance to promote our latest album. We appreciate your support in keeping the scene alive by promoting bands of all backgrounds and levels of fame!
