Interviews: Obshar

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Ruthenian Black Metal band Obshar from Slovakia. Check out the interview and this amazing band!

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or did it come out just like that?

The band's name is identical to the name of a hill located in our home region. It has a symbolic meaning for us because it played an important role in the fight against the Nazi occupation in the past.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

In general, we have loved metal music since childhood. And black metal, in particular, is the closest to us due to its mysticism and dark atmosphere.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we have been longtime friends and colleagues in other musical projects as well.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

A very difficult question, but we will try to choose one:

Ⱑ - Old Man's Child

Ⱂ - Cattle Decapitation

Ⰱ - Panopticon

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

When writing lyrics, we are inspired by personal experiences and various life situations, which we metaphorically connect with Ruthenian mythology.

6. Where was your last gig?

Due to family and work reasons, we are unable to play concerts. In the past, we played dozens of shows, but in other bands.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would like to play anywhere where people would be interested in us. But we are in a difficult situation because our members live in different places.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

It is not possible at the moment, but if it were in the future, we would love to collaborate with someone from Slovakia or the Czech Republic, such as Malokarpaťan, Cult of Fire, Aeon Winds, Besna, and many others.

9. Whom not?

Although we are an apolitical band, we despise anything fascist, Nazi, or Bolshevik.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Stage fright is a natural emotion, and each of us has experienced it. Everyone finds their own way to overcome it. We cannot provide a universal piece of advice, so we prefer not to answer.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

There are many, including those from non-metal genres. Our influences range from pop, electronic music, and hard rock to satanic black metal.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We have not experienced any strange situations so far.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We deeply appreciate every person who enjoys our music. And when people share their constructive opinions with us, it helps us move forward and motivates us to create more.

14. What do you think of our site?

We only discovered your site recently, and it is full of interesting bands and interviews. We admire everyone who dedicates their free time to promoting many unknown yet high-quality bands.

15. Something to add?

We would like to send warm greetings to all your readers and wish you all the best in your future work! Thank you for the interview and for giving us space on your website.
