Interviews About Albums: The Veer Union - Welcome To Dystopia (2025)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Canadian Hard Rock/Metal band The Veer Union to ask questions about their album, "Welcome To Dystopia".

1. What can you say about the theme of the new “Welcome To Dystopia” album?

The overall theme is about what’s been going on in the world over the past few years: The rapid advance of invasive technology, governments turning their back on the Middle and Working Classes, and the incredibly fast pace of change in the world. It seems to have struck a chord, and we’re thrilled to see that listeners and critics alike are resonating with it.

2. What is the meaning of “Welcome To Dystopia” to you?

It's a powerful rallying cry that highlights the deep-seated betrayal of the working class by those in power. For decades, leaders have systematically dismantled the middle class by outsourcing jobs, leaving communities in distress while the elite continues to prosper. Meanwhile, governments have colluded with tech giants to stifle opposition, using cancel culture and censorship as weapons to control the narrative. The endless wars have claimed countless innocent lives, and devastated nations, and yet, only the powerful benefit. We've endured lockdowns, had our freedoms stripped away, and watched as our future grows more uncertain. The dream of prosperity has been stolen, leaving younger generations with little hope for a better tomorrow. The rise of AI and automation threatens to further strip us of our autonomy, turning technology into a tool of control. But in this era of information, people are waking up, realizing the gravity of our situation—and they’re demanding accountability from those who’ve let us down. There’s still hope, though…it’s not too late.

3. Who wrote/composed the songs on the LP?

Crispin Earl (Producer), Ryan Ramsdell, and Julien Bouffard.

4. If you had to pick one song as your favorite from the album, which one would you pick?

It’s hard to choose, but probably "IS THIS HOW IT ENDS." It is powerful and really resonates with us deeply.

5. Is there a special message behind this project? If so, what is it?

The core message of Veer has always been about hope. "Welcome to Dystopia" is a concept album for us, one where we ventured into new territory both lyrically and musically. But at its heart, it still embodies that central message of hope. Despite everything happening in the world, this album reflects our effort as artists to capture the essence of what we're all experiencing right now.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share, in particular?

Nothing rings truer than President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s farewell speech on the bridge "IS THIS HOW IT ENDS." His farewell address in 1961, particularly his warning about the rise of the "military-industrial complex," feels even more relevant today. His concerns about the unchecked power of large institutions and the potential dangers to democracy seem eerily prescient in today’s world, where similar concentrations of power are shaping society…. The Tech Industrial Complex, as it were.

7. What have been your inspirations that were important for this album? Musically, or from friends, family, or personal experiences? Is there someone in particular you’d like to thank or name specially?

The state of the world has been our primary inspiration for this album. The pandemic shifted everything in ways that we’re still trying to fully understand. Over the past two decades, we’ve seen rapid changes—economic instability, rising censorship, and a growing distrust in leadership. It’s a chaotic and overwhelming time to navigate. Through it all, our families and friends have been unwaveringly supportive, which has been a constant source of inspiration for us. What you live through inevitably influences your creative work, and this album reflects that raw, real-world experience.

8. What are your plans for the rest of 2025? Any tour dates in the works? Will you be releasing more new music?

We’re definitely planning to hit the road this year in support of the album. It’s been a while since we’ve been on tour—our last one was back in 2022—so we’re really excited to get back on stage! For Veer Union fans, 2025 will bring a lot of surprises. We haven’t felt this energized in a long time, and we can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on!
