Interviews: Epic Death
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Symphonic Death Metal band Epic Death from the USA. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it planned, or did it just happen organically?
The name 'Epic Death' was born from a late-night conversation. Dennis and Becky were brainstorming, and after Dennis joked about 'Death' being a hard name to top, Becky suggested, 'Why not Epic Death?' It was 2:00 AM on April 10, 2010, and the name stuck. This release marks our 15th anniversary.
2. Why did you choose to play this genre?
We chose this genre because it allows us to blend the elements we love: action, horror, fantasy, and compelling storytelling, all through powerful music and lyrics.
3. Did you know each other before forming the band?
Dennis and Becky, who are married, started Epic Death in their bedroom in 2010. Reece, our drummer, has been a close friend for 20 years. Justin (bass), Alex (guitar), and Matheus (guitar on this release) joined after we shared the stage with their band, Dead Trip.
4. What is each band member's favorite band?
Dennis: Slayer
Becky: Cradle of Filth
Reece: Dream Theater
Justin: Cannibal Corpse
Alex: Gojira
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Dennis: Riffs and entire songs often spontaneously appear in my mind. I then translate these inner sounds into compositions.
Band: 'The Seer' was a collaborative effort, with each member contributing ideas to shape the final product.
6. Your favorite gig?
Dennis: The Antichrist Resurrection Metal Fest in New Orleans, LA, 2023.
Becky: Our 2018 show with Carach Angren.
Reece: All the times we played at The Scout bar as support for international, signed bands.
Justin/Alex: The Edge Bar, Tucson, AZ, is the final show of our 2023 Apocalyptic Desert Tour.
7. Where would you like to perform in the future?
Madison Square Garden!
8. Which artist or band would you like to collaborate with?
Tom Araya (Slayer), Andy La Roque (King Diamond), Tony Dolan (Venom), Tom MacDonald, Gojira.
Is there anyone you wouldn’t want to collaborate with?
9. Whom not?
We're open to collaborating with anyone.
10. Have any of you ever experienced stage fright? Do you have any tips for beginners on overcoming it?
Everyone experiences it. Practice and confidence are key to overcoming it.
11. Which bands have influenced you the most?
Slayer, Amon Amarth, Cradle of Filth, Dream Theater, Cannibal Corpse.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Metal fans are wonderfully uninhibited! Nothing really stands out as 'weird.' They ask for everything!
13. What do you think of your fans?
We deeply appreciate our fans. Their support, especially the generous contributions to our crowdfunding campaign, made 'The Seer' possible.
14. What do you think of our site?
Your site is fantastic! Your passion for music and dedication to sharing it is evident. We appreciate your inclusive approach to promoting diverse genres.
15. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
We extend our gratitude to Matheus Rodriguez for his contributions to 'The Seer.' Thank you to our crowdfunding supporters. To all musicians, regardless of experience, never give up!
