Behind The Tracks: Down - Soft Spot (Single) (2025)

Soft spot is ever evolving as a band, and I think "Down" is a song that fully encompasses what Soft Spot is as a band as of right now. The song has these really pretty melodic, softer parts as well as these really big, heavy, fuzzed-out choruses, which is a sound we’ve been trying to dial in. It was a song that was pitched at practice and played through a bunch of times until we were comfortable with it. Then the next day, I (Gianni) sat outside and tried to channel some things that were bugging me. "Down" just kinda poured out, and at the time felt right. During the recording process of the song, I almost rewrote the whole thing because I wasn’t feeling it, but our bassist, Dav,e persuaded me not to, and I totally think he was right.

The writing process of "Down" came out of necessity. When there are no more words that can be spoken with someone you once cared about, it’s more cathartic to let it live in a song than continue to keep you down. We are due in for a very busy year, with a record on the way in June and a tour to go along with it, as well as plenty more music to come! Hope to catch you at a show on the road!!
