Behind The Tracks: Stay For Tomorrow - In The Way (Single) (2025)

Our latest single “In The Way” started with a guitar riff that would go on to shape the entire track. It originally came about when our lead guitarist, Nic, set out to write a more dance-influenced riff — something he thought might finally win over drummer Sean, after years of playfully irritating him with similar ideas. While experimenting with the Neural DSP Gojira plugin, Nic landed on a tone that brought the riff to life and gave the track its signature energy. Around the same time, vocalist Joe had come up with a vocal melody and the standout lyrical hook, “Either you’re in or in the way.” That line quickly became the song’s emotional anchor, setting the tone for a theme of blurred intentions and questionable commitment in relationships — something we wanted to explore throughout the entire track.

As we continued to develop the song, we brought it to the rest of the band to flesh out the arrangement. Each member added their own flavour, building on the initial idea and helping the track evolve into something much bigger. It also marked a milestone for us — this was the first song our newest member, synth bassist and keys player Gemma, worked on with us from the ground up. Her parts brought a new layer of texture and atmosphere to the song, and her input quickly became an essential part of the overall sound. We also experimented with orchestration and layered vocal harmonies, which elevated the emotional weight of the track. This collaborative process helped shape the dynamic flow and texture of the song.
To keep the creative momentum going, we recorded a demo version ourselves. This allowed us to hear the full arrangement in context and test how the different elements worked together. It also gave us space to generate new ideas and refine sections as we continued writing. Once we were confident with the direction, we laid down the final guitars and synth/keys — elements that would make it into the official version of the song.

We then teamed up with Gracenote Studios to record the drums, lead vocals, and any additional ideas that emerged during those sessions. It was a collaborative and fluid process that brought fresh energy to the track. The final mix and master were handled by Dominic Hardy, who helped bring everything together with clarity and punch. The song is set for release on April 25, 2025, and we can’t wait for everyone to hear it.
