Interviews About Albums: Matraque - Nature Morte (2025)
In this new interview, we sat down with the Belarusian Sludge Metal/Doom Metal/Death Metal band Matraque to ask questions about their album, "Nature Morte".
1. What can you say about this new CD?
We aimed to bring together our collective experience from past musical projects and our musical tastes, mixing it all into a viscous mass of sound designed to engulf the listener. All the lyrics on the album are in Belarusian, which was a conscious decision and served as a medium for self-expression. Additionally, as we cherish the DIY approach, we are proud that all recording and production were done in-house by our singer, Alexander, at our rehearsal room.
2. What is the meaning of the CD name?
Nature Morte has several meanings, including both "dead nature" and "stopped life". It seems to me that this quite accurately conveys what we are currently going through.
3. Which one is the composer of the CD?
Everyone contributed their best to the compositions and to the overall sound. This is our joint work.
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
"Volya" - it was the last one to be conceived and seems to me the most mature and interesting in structure.
5. Is there a special message on this CD? If there is what it is?
We didn't plan for a single overarching meaning, but the message turned out to be about taking responsibility for one's life and being with loved ones on the path forward.
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
І daluchaczcza da budaўnіcztva svayoj asobnaj vyaznіcy`
І chakacz` pakul` kat pry`jdze da cyabe і zrobіcz` pakaz z tvayoj pagіbelі
(in Belarusian)
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?
As musical inspirations, we can highlight Primitive Man, Grief, Indian, Asphalt, and Body Void, along with our feelings about what has been happening in the world and within ourselves over the past few years. We want to express our gratitude to and thank everyone who contributed to the album's creation, provided support with the visuals, and helped in any way, as well as everyone who has supported the local music scene throughout the years.
