Track By Tracks: Helpless Agony - Belligerent Retribution (2025)
1. Devil's Servant:
This song turned out more hardcore-based than I originally intended, but I really like it. I think it is a great opener to get the listener prepared for what's in store.
2. Unhuman Mind:
This is a personal song about how I feel like no one understands why I made certain decisions in life and how those decisions affected my career and relationships.
3. The Raven's Call:
Musically, this is my take on Caliban's 2nd record [Vent], which I really enjoy. Lyrically, it's about someone who leads a group of people to stand up for what they believe in and accomplish what they want to do. There is no one in particular it's about.
4. Belligerent Retribution:
Lyrically, this is about multiple crimes I have read about that I thought were pretty crazy. I turned them all into a story that reflected the album's theme of revenge.
5. Catastrophic Incident:
I have made it my own personal trend to add an experimental track to each album. That's what this track is. But this time it's short and to the point.
6. Die Alone:
I recently got an acoustic nylon guitar that I wanted to use on a record. I wrote this song for that purpose. This was also the first time I played a guitar finger style. I did not use a pick for any of the recordings. I wanted to add drums to the song, so I programmed a jazz beat that I thought worked.
7. Life of Regret:
I found an old video of me playing something on the guitar that I came up with a few years ago. I tabbed out what I was doing, made some adjustments, and this song became the final product.
8. Dethroned Reject:
This was the 1st song I wrote for this album. I came up with the opening riff one day and decided to turn it into a full song. That was the catalyst to make a whole record.
9. A Good Friend:
Lyrically, this song is about people whom you meet who act friendly towards you, but are only talking to you so they can take advantage of you. I also added some clean vocals in the break of the song since I enjoyed actually singing on the last record [Absurd Populace] .
10. Creator of Havoc:
This song wasn't originally going to be on the album. After I finished writing the record, I came up with the verse riff that you hear with the vocals. I told myself that I had to turn that riff into a complete song, so I did that within an hour and added it to the record.
