Behind The Scenes: Spankraght - Crunch Culture (Official Video)

For this video, we set out to do something different than most metal videos of a band standing in an abandoned warehouse. Another factor was the lack of budget, but as a professional video editor, I saw the possibility of keeping costs to a bare minimum. I wanted to make it a mixture of performance, animated, and lyric video. I first started out with making a lyric video with black and white typography. Then we just had several shots of us rehearsing in our rehearsal space before a black backdrop with hard lighting to emphasize the shadows. That multicam footage was edited and mixed with the lyric video. As an extra layer, I animated key moments in the lyrics. Inspired by the look of our album's artwork, I made white silhouettes and animated parts of them. That way, I was able to show some more "extreme" scenes. To top it off, extra negative layers, motion blu,r and digital glitches were added to roughen it up. The first video looked grea,t but the band footage looked too clean, so I took the multicam edit and ran it through After Effects, adding extra grain, coloring, and warp effects to give it that blue-ish vibe. The edit on YouTube is a toned-down version of the original edit. In the original edit, the pace was much higher, but maybe too much for some. In the end, this video can be extracted into a performance video, a lyric video, and an animated video. I think the video is a good representation of how it feels to be going through a mental hell due to extreme work conditions and toxic leadership, having experienced it at firsthand.
