Behind The Tracks: Rare Breed - Drowning (Single) (2025)

Drowning is a song delivered from the viewpoint of somebody who is struggling with anxiety and insecurity and feels as though they are struggling to keep their head above water in daily life as their own thoughts consume them. We wanted this track to be that sort of “scream in the car”, relatable, therapeutic song that our listeners could really find a personal, emotional connection to as well as hopefully finding some comfort in the knowledge that they are not alone. It’s a track that is quite personal to us, knowing that it is a mental battle we have been through alongside so many others, who, most of the time, have suffered through it in complete silence. At the end of the day music is an source of expression, unity and great strength for us all so with this track we are just really happy with how it has turned out and hope that it can serve exactly those purposes for as many people as possible. Many of the lyrics in the song are taken from a poll we did on our instagram asking our fans to anonymously tell us how their insecurities make them feel, and this was done so that the fans can interact with the band personally and feel a part of something, and so that it really feels like it’s their song as well. We hope that by listening to the song they feel as though we’re singing for them and that they’re understood. It’s no coincidence as well that this is our heaviest song yet, as we really felt the heavier nature of the song lent itself well to the subject matter. This is our first track to be released that was recorded as a duo, and we spent a lot of time layering synths and guitar to create as powerful a sound as we can. The vocals were also done in as little takes as we could to try and keep the emotional delivery intact. We hope this is a song you can let it all out to and we’re incredibly happy with how it’s all turned out.
