Interviews: White Tundra
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Mystic Rock band White Tundra from Norway. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? You planned it or came out like that?
Since we wanted to play some stoner rock-inspired music, the idea for the name came from Desert Rock. We thought we could do the Norwegian version of it, and that our equivalent of desert was tundra. So then we ended up on White Tundra. No idea where white came from though :)
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Ola: When me and former guitar player Nils formed the band, we came from a rock n roll band, and just decided that this band should be a bit heavier.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Ola: Nils and I knew each other from earlier bands back when we started, but didn`t know Steven when he joined. When Kjell came in on lead guitar in early 2024 we didn't have a regular bass player. Luckily, Kjell remembered after a few months that he knew Øyvind, so we recruited him on bass.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Steven: Mine is Iron Maiden, my first love in metal, Black Sabbath for the sound and Ozzy's voice, and Motorhead for the attitude and the sound.
Ola: Almost the same as Steven, I have to add Kyuss, of course, and Rainbow for their incredible vocals and melodies.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
It could be anything from a piece of a story, a feeling, or a specific mood, or just some spaced-out idea being depicted in a guitar riff or melody.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was in Trondheim supporting Sibiir. That was really great, great guys and crowd! It`s been a while since then, so we are really looking forward to starting to play gigs again this fall.
7. Where would you like to act?
All of the big festivals in our genre, like Kroekbacken, DesertFests, Up in Smoke, and so on, would be great!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
It would be great to play some festivals with some of the big names from Scandinavia, like Truckfighters, Skraeckoedlan, Witchcraft, Lowrider, and so on.
9. Whom not?
No idea, we are available for everyone!
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Ola: I guess everyone has felt stage fright sometimes. A tip is not to take it too seriously and turn the nerves into something good. I`m in love with the pre-gig buzz!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Steven: Musically, we`re inspired by bands like Skraeckoedlan and their incredible songwriting and melodies, and Gnome- it`s just pure stoner rock at its finest. You can also add Lowrider, Witchcraft, and Clutch.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
It still feels strange when someone asks to get a record signed, to be honest.
13. What do you think of your fans?
As a not-so-big band, we really don`t think we have proper fans yet, but we really appreciate the people who regularly come to our shows.
14. What do you think of our site?
We love it, it`s so important that someone is covering the underground properly!
15. Something to add?
Thanks for having us. Keep up the good work, and please check out our music!
