Behind The Scenes: Vintersea - Become The Wave (Official Video)
We filmed the video in two big chunks.
Our first day of filming was at the Oregon Coast, near Waldport/Bayshore at several locations. Our last location, a rocky cliff, had some epic waves splashing about. Several of us ended up getting soaked by the waves!
The second big day of filming was at my house. I had wanted to build a set with water pouring on us, and I thought I had devised a way to do it in my garage. I put a huge tarp down and then built a set. My wife and I spent a day building the majority of it, and then on the filming day, Jeremy showed up early and helped put the finishing touches on it. We tested the water and it was doing what we wanted, so then it was time for the big goal - soaking drums!! Jeremy and I thought it would be epic to get the water splashes off the toms, cymbals, and more. It ended up working great and looked epic both in person and on camera. After Jeremy was done, we cycled through the band members. Everyone got soaked and had a good time. I mean....some said they didn't, but I know they were lying. :)
Kayla had a vision for a medieval wheel for the breakdown section, so Jeremy and I rigged it up, and then we went to town filming.
Our band is pretty hands-on for most of our videos now. Riley's wife will often help on 2nd camera, Riley and Jeremy often end up filming as well, and everyone helps brainstorm ideas.
While editing the video, Kayla and I talked about going out and trying to capture another night at the beach, but we wanted to time it with a great sunset. Our first day of filming was beautiful, but there was no orange in the sky. So the Sunday before the release of the video, Kayla and I went out to Neskowin, OR, and filmed for a few hours. As soon as we reviewed the first two clips, we knew we had the missing piece to the puzzle.
Once filming was complete, we did rapid feedback on edits, taking in suggestions from the band and some close friends, and all of a sudden, we had the final version, something that everyone in the band can be proud of.
