Interviews About Albums: The Obsidian Resurrection - As Darkness Falls (2025)

In this new interview, we sat down with the American Death Metal band The Obsidian Resurrection to ask questions about their album, "As Darkness Falls".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

This album was twenty years in the making, it's literally opening a time capsule for not only us, but for anyone who listens to it. It is a product of its time since we wrote this album back when we were active and all we did was tweak a few things here and there when finally recording the album from 2020 to the beginning of 2025, it's all the same high energy and raw power from when we were still a young band before we had to break up. It truly feels like looking into the past for us and it feels like a great accomplishment.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

Originally, the title track was going to be called "Written In Blood", but our vocalist/guitarist changed the name when going over that song's lyrics, to "As Darkness Falls", which I feel means the foreboding darkness that befalls us all in this life. This album deals with mankind's inert sinful nature, death, war, destruction, all those warm fuzzy feelings like that, that ultimately lead to our own demise, and we never learn from our past mistakes so the cycle repeats endlessly.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

We all contribute equally in a sense. There may be a song where one of us primarily writes, but that song is then brought up and shown to the group, and we all go over it together, and if there are any changes that need to be made, we work on it together until we are all happy with it. But moving forward, the band will be just Danny and me, and we will be writing the music.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

That's easy for me, "Born From Tyranny" that song isy baby. It went through several changes over the years, and it was at one point titled, "This Day To Be My Last", but ultimately that song originally was my song I wrote to end the album back in the day, so I'm kinda biased, haha.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

I'd say that to me, the message is that we as stewards of this earth need to do better. What is the point of creating future generations if there is nothing left to live for?

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

These lyrics from our song, "Prophecy's Will", I feel encapsulates the overall theme of the album and sets the stage for the musical and lyrical onslaught that listeners can expect when pressing play on the album, which is available on our Bandcamp:

"A shadowy gaze shifts towards the horizon.
Bringing unrelenting chaos and destruction.
Above lies the backdrop of a blood red painting, they anticipate in fear at a sight they've never seen.

Final judgment is drawing near.

The coming of an apocalyptic prologue. The emergence of four dark generals leading, demonic forces of the underworld began their task. Extermination"

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

We draw influences from many things. From books we have read, Dungeons and Dragons, movies we enjoyed, to just observing the world around us, it all contributed to the lyrics and theme, and even the artwork that our drummer's father painted for us for the album, it all draws inspiration from numerous things that culminated into this album.

8. Something to add?

Soon, Danny and I will be working on new music, so our fans should stay tuned for that. Until then, please enjoy and grab yourselves a copy of our album either in digital or physical formats on our Bandcamp, physical copies get two free custom The Obsidian Resurrection guitar picks while supplies last, check it out here: https://theobsidianresurrection.bandcamp.com/album/as-darkness-falls
