Interviews: Mørket

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Metal band Mørket from Finland. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? You planned it or came out like that?

Since we come from Finland and darkness has always been an element that is part of our nature on a cultural level, we chose Mørket as our name. It is actually a Norwegian word, but since we operate in a cross-Nordic way, singing in Swedish and in Finnish, having a Norwegian flavor was fitting.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

It probably comes very naturally. Although for many, Mørket's music might sound intense and dark metal, we have very wide musical influences from all the genres of music, and somehow it all blends out like this.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yeah, we all connected before ending up in the same band. We have had some lineup changes along the way, but everyone who has stepped into the group has been somebody we have known before.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Impossible to say. As I said, we all come from different angles, and our influences vary from hip hop, soul, classic rock, and pop to different genres of metal. But if we had to name one band, Norwegian band Kveletrak is something we have often been musically compared to. I think the secret of Mørket is actually the thing that we all appreciate and dig, such a wide portfolio of sounds and music.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

All the things that are happening around us and in the world. The world is in such a terrible state right now, with people suffering, wars, and so on. But we definitely come from the angle of hope, rather than "we all are doomed forever".

6. Where was your last gig?

Helsinki Metal Festival in...Helsinki.

7. Where would you like to act?

Act? Well, maybe some Nordic noir kinda of TV show.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Paul McCartney would be nice. Also, Dua Lipa would be cool.

9. Whom not?

We would never do features with any racist or fascist artist. You get the picture. 

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Not a really severe one. But we have different ways of dealing with being nervous before the show. Our vocalist Erik, always goes for a run to get the blood pumping right before we hit the stage. That's a good way of warming up. Also, just trying to cheer each other up, do some jumping that reflects that it is a privilege to be able to go out and play your music. So that's something we always try to cherish, no matter how nervous we are.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Once again, it's a lot. In a nutshell, probably all the artists who do their thing from the heart. Playing music and being an artist is a marathon and not a sprint, so the most important thing is actually that you like what you do. If somebody else likes your music, then that is a plus!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nothing super weird. Our fans and listeners are always super nice and polite!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Each and every person who listens to our music and comes to our shows is a gift! So we really appreciate everyone.
