Interviews: Unredeemer

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal band Unredeemer from Finland. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it planned, or did it just happen organically?

It wasn’t our idea. Unredeemer demanded to be born—we just gave it a body.

2. Why did you choose to play this genre?

The genre evolved with us. We play what we like at any given moment, and now we don’t even know what to call it. We just default to death metal.

3. Did you know each other before forming the band?

No. I actually joined through an online ad, so I was a complete outsider. Pekka and Nisu knew each other, and Olli and Sami moved in the same circles.

4. What is each band member’s favorite band?

Pantera for Sami, Rotting Christ for Pekka, Carcass for Olli, Sepultura for Nisu, and I’ll go with Cattle Decapitation.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Most of our songs come from our own lives—experiences, situations, and feelings.

6. Where was your last gig?

We played Tyyne Rock Festival a few weeks ago.

7. Where would you like to perform in the future?

There are plenty of extreme metal festivals across Europe. We’re not picky.

8. Which artist or band would you like to collaborate with?

Haven’t really thought about it. We’re open to collaborations, but we’d take it on a case-by-case basis.

9. Is there anyone you wouldn’t want to collaborate with?

Same as above.

10. Have any of you ever experienced stage fright? Do you have any tips for beginners on overcoming it?

Every time. That’s part of the adrenaline that fuels our performance. Don’t fight it—embrace it and burn it like fuel.

11. Which bands have influenced you the most?

The ones we named as favorites—and all the twisted branches that grew from their roots.

12. What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

If our stage banner were for sale.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are not “fans.” They are the unredeemed. They’ve stripped off the illusions and faced the truth. That deserves only respect.

14. What do you think of our site?

Anyone who amplifies the voices of the underground is doing sacred work. Don’t stop.

15. Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Unredeem yourself—before someone else redeems you.
