Band Biographies: Sterbhaus

Stockholm veterans Sterbhaus play Metal Deluxe, which can be described as timeless Death, Thrash, Heavy, Black, and Progressive Metal that is neither retro nor modern. And Sterbhaus lines this with a heavy dose of dark wit humor. The band is the home of Marcus Hammarström (previously Elvira Madigan 1998-2008, Shining, and currently also in Veile - side project of Ghul from Mayhem), Jimmy Ahovalli, and Erik Röjås (previously Ondskapt and Decadence). Started in 2007 as a five-piece and reformed several times since then, Sterbhaus ended up as a trio after having looked back on years releasing absolutely stellar albums, touring Europe (as support for Vader, Melechesh and Shining), South America and after having played several prestigious festivals such as Metal Town, Rock Harz, BlastFest, Extremefest which meant sharing the bill with Slipknot, Amon Amarth, Marilyn Manson, Behemoth, Opeth etc.

In 2025, Sterbhaus made a quite formidable return after a period of being fairly dormant and surprised the scene with the comeback single “Deth Bü Wolfe,” which is the knuckle sandwich old/new/awaiting fans never saw coming.

The current status of Sterbhaus is actually quite unknown, as the band announced its end in 2019, while simultaneously making it very clear that there were still several releases to be made. One was the live album “Necrostabbing at Göta Källare,” which achieved the unlikely feat of snagging the No. 1 sales position in Sweden for physical releases and No. 9 for all Metal and all formats!

While the debut “Angels for Breakfast ...And God for Lunch” (2013) seemed to open most every door, the album “New Level of Malevolence” (2015) - although popular and praised when released, seemed to close those doors instead. Several canceled tours, being banned for offensive videos (a ridiculous claim, ofc), botched promotions, even more cancellations, and one or two empty festival seasons together with personal issues put Sterbhaus in such a tight spot that the band had a hard time bouncing back. Marcus Hammarström joined Swedish extreme metal titans Shining and toured extensively while Sterbhaus released the Christmas EP “Krampusnacht”. Eventually, Marcus quit Shining to focus on the 2025 Sterbhaus album "Next Akin to Chaos".

Either it will be a momentous epitaph or a new beginning.
